Uhm...without my dictionary, and only with online translator, I'd say "Inspector of indirect excises".
At the time, every time goods went in and out of towns, taxes had to be paid. Of course there had to be someone who controlled.

Here's a reference I found for this occupation after Pippo translated it for us. Thanks, Pippo-

Fu nominato dal Re controllore dei Dazi indiretti e Ispettore delle R. R. Dogane a Bari. Fu Ispettore del Governo per lo sterminio dei bruchi.

He was nominated by the king. He was a customs inspector who was responsible for overseeing the collection of duty or tax on goods. He worked under the Minister of Finance, which is something I read in another reference. However, in the reference above, it also states that he was a government inspector for the extermination of caterpillars. I don't know though if this was always the case.

Well, it was Pippo who did the leg work on this one. Your town certainly does have some strange occupations, which have been quite an education for me!
