This is the only picture I have of my grandfather, Antonio Lodi.
Can you tell me if this is a passport photo? or a photo that may have been taken prior to boarding a steamship in Le Havre bound for NY or in NY bound for Le Havre? or taken at Ellis Island?
Let me describe the details.
Top left and right hand corners are definitely some type of stamps.
In the center, definitely it says Comune Marcatino Marecchia where he lived.
I cannot decipher the date which is in script, begins with the 22nd day of the 10th month, next line is his name in script. The year in question has to be either 1909, 1910 or 1911.
I cannot decipher the word in script at the bottom right corner.
thanks in advance

Re: is this a passport photo?
Grazie,
Grandfather returned ( 1921 )to hometown, Mercatino Marecchia after an injury in the coal mines in the USA. He wanted to have medical treatment in Italy. I still do not understand why the photo is stamped with the name of the Comune? perhaps he needed this to apply for medical benefits? he ended up in a hospital in Bologna for 2 years.
