A line through a passenger entry can mean that the person did not sail on that voyage (most common reason) OR that they are listed on another part of the manifest.gentilejoy@yahoo.com wrote:What does it mean if there is a line running straight across a specific name on a manifest ? Also, circa 1900 what was the general time journey from Italy to America by ship ?

So if I understood correctly, a line across the name generally meant the person was set to sail, but was a "no show" for whatever reason. That would make a lot of sense since it appears a month later, he sailed out from another ship to America.
Usually passengers who might not be allowed entry were detained after arrival so they would still appear on the ship manifest...Italia1963 wrote:Could it also mean that the person was denied entry into the US?
