Re: DeSantis
Hey britt,
my nonna grande (great grandmother) on my fathers side was Antonia DeSantis, she had one sister named Restitutta and one brother named Domenico. She was born in 1909 in Sora, Lazio and died here in Toronto, Ontario in 2005. Her parents were Luigi DeSantis and Maria Luigia DiCresce. She married Tommaso Palleschi and had two daughters Emma (my nonna) and Vittoria. Any similarities? My whole family comes from Lazio (Frosinone).
I dont know too much either about the DeSantis family branch that's in my family tree/pedigree. On ancestry.com they define the name as this:
Southern Italian: patronymic from the personal name Santo, in the broader sense ‘of or belonging to the Santi family’.
and on heraldrysinstitute.com:
Antica ed illustre famiglia, di chiara e provata nobiltà, con residenza nella città di Barletta. Questo illustre casato, può annoverare, tra i suoi membri, diversi giudici, che svolsero la professione in Barletta nel XV secolo: Gabriel, Santillus e Nicola Antonio de Santis. Il 10 ottobre 1540, un Francesco Antonio, fu iscritto nell'Albo della No ...
and on houseofnames.com:
The surname De santis is patronymic in origin, meaning it was based on the first name of a forefather. In this case, De santis is derived from the Latin word "sanctus," meaning "holy" or "devout," thus the original bearer of the name was known to be a holy and devout person.
Spelling variations of this family name include: De Santi, De Santis, Santo, Santucci, Santino, De Sanctis and many more. First found in northern Italy, particularly in the regions of Piedmont, Lombardy and Tuscany. Some of the first settlers in the United States in the 19th Century of this family name were: Antonio Desantis, 54, who came to New York in 1882.
and thats all that i know about the family name, and the family branch thats in my pedigree/family tree.

Re: DeSantis
Hi,
My Grandfather was named Domenico DeSantis. He was born November 14 of 1947 in Sora Italy. His parents were Salvatore DeSantis (1915-2003) and Antoinette Bouno (1922-2006). My Grandfather died in Victoria, British Colombia, Canada in 2005. His Grandparents were Giovanni DeSantis (1884-?) and Teresa Potsinlli; neither of them left Italy. Domenico married Grietje Bouwman (1952-living). My Grandfather landed in the states in about 1948.
That is all I know about my family.
