Aniello & Antonette Fernandes 1910/1915 census

Post by chrisdamato »

I'm trying to locate my great grandparents in the 1910 U.S. Census as well as the 1915 NY Census. I've had no luck so far. I even searched the entire Enumeration District for the street they lived on when they were married in 1912, but no luck there either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Found his WWI registration Card and Naturalization index...

Address - 77 Thompson St.

Are these correct?

Could this be the family in 1920 Census? Aniello listed as "Louis?"

Yes, that is the correct person. I have the 1920 census but have had no luck with the 1910 or 1915 census. I know they were living in nyc.

I checked the 1915 New York Census for 77 Thompson St. - not there...

Do you have another address?

Have you tried this site?

Checked those records already. Scanned through all of Sullivan St, Spring St., and Thompson. I'm baffled.

Here are a few possibilities as to why you can not find them in the censuses...

~ the surname is grossly misspelled by the census-taker, and sometimes by the transcriber
~ families were "missed" (not at home when the census taker came or returned to take the information)
~ they actually lived out of the state/area for a short while- or with someone else and they are listed under the "head of household's" surname.
~ the husband was working somewhere else, and the wife/child were living with relatives.

If you know of other relatives with whom they might be living, you might do a search on those names.

While searching I found a female, A. Fernandez/s, who was a matron (age about 23 I think) at J. W. Smith Home in Brooklyn, in the New York State 1915 Census. I will have to see if I can relocate that record.

Found Aniello in the 1915 New York City Directory at 77 Thompson Street.
He is under last name Fernandez
Occupation listed as buttonhole maker.

Looks like the census taker may have missed this family (the family of Jennie Mento [Antonietta's sister] IS listed at 77 Thompson St.)

Ancestry link to the Directory

Curious...
Aniello's address on the New York County Naturalization Index is also 77 Thompson St., in 1917

New York County Supreme Court Naturalization Petition Index, 1907-24 about Aniello Fernandes
Name: Aniello Fernandes
Address: 77 Thompson St
Date: 18 Jul 1917
Volume #: 269
Page #: 169

AND - I did not find him at that address in the 1925 New York State Census either :?

Antonette died in 1920 and Aniello moved to Sea Girt, NJ. He eventually remarried.
