DiGiorgio and Amendolora

Post by ginacoco »

I am trying to get further back in my genealogy. My maternal grandfather, Frank, was a DiGiorgio. He was born on 10/27/1918 in New York City. His father's name was Nicholas DiGiorgio, via Frank's birth certificate, but that could have been the American version of his first name. Nicholas died around 1920.

Frank's mother's name was Domenica Amendolara (1895-1975). I am not 100% sure of the Amendolara spelling. Her father was Francesco Amendolara and her mother was Maria Turzo.

My grandfather said his family came from the Bari region of Italy. This is the extent of what I know. I would like to go back on both sides and get some genealogy information, if possible. Thanks, in advance, for your help:)

Concerning Domenica Amendolara (which I believe is the correct spelling of the surname)- where did you get her mother's maiden name from? The reason I ask is that I found a Domenica whose father was a Francesco, but whose mother was a Maria Tullo and she was from the town of Palo del Colle in Bari Province, born in Jan of 1895. The parents married in that same town in 1882.

These are links to the records, in case these are your ancestors

birth Jan 17, 1895. Father: Francesco, age 37, son of deceased Arcangelo. Mother Maria Tullo, daughter of Vito.

Marriage: Sept 2, 1882. Francesco, age 25, peasant/farmer, son of Arcangelo Amendolara and Anna Carbonella. Maria Tullo, age 21, daughter of Vito and Antonia Masiello.

If the information I posted above is the correct family....

Here is the Publication of Marriage Banns for Michele Di Giorgio and Maria Giuseppa Ninno/Ninni

REcord #56 (right side of image)
Dated 7 September 1878 in Sateramo in Colle, Bari, Italy
Groom: Michele Di Giorgio, age 19, peasant farmer born in Santeramo in Colle to Giuseppe, peasant farmer, and to Rosa Nuzzi, peasant farmer.
Bride: Maria Giuseppa Ninno (later Ninni on birth records for sons), age 20, peasant farmer born in Sateramo to Erasmo, a mason, and to Chiara Siletti, peasant farmer.

The banns were posted on 8, 15, and 19 of September 1878.
Generally, the marriage took place soon after those dates.
