Cardarelli and Caputo families?

Hello!

I've spent months on Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, microfilm and whatnot. However, i'm having trouble locating information about the (CAPUTO & CARDARELLI) sides of my family, going back four generations to Italy. Maybe someone can help me out or lead me in the right direction. I am trying to get information about the following underlined names:

Tomasso Cardarelli---born 1850's maybe, Ortona, Chieti Italy
wife: Maria (Moscai?) Cardarelli

(children: Albert, Giovanni and Nunzio--WVA, OHIO, US)

Also:

Antonio Caputo
wife: Rosina (Reda) Caputo, both believed to be from Mendocino, IT

(daughter: Maria Caputo, son: Eugene Caputo--OHIO, US)

You might consider writing directly to the Comune of Ortona and the Comune of Mendicino...to request birth and/or marriage record of Tomasso Cardarelli and Antonio Caputo.

1. I've never tried to rent the microfilm records.
2. Yes that is the record from WVA that I have, that I found on family search. The problem is no one in my family is old enough or still alive to remember that generation.

Is it safe to assume that Cardarelli and Garzarelli from Ortona/Chieti are the same names?

No, both surnames exist in the Chieti Province.
However, Garzarelli and Garzarella exist in Ortona, Chieti; and
Cardarelli exists today in Casalbordino, Chieti, and Cardarella exists in Vasto, Chieti.

I am a Cardarelli! Is there anything I can assist with? I'm looking for information on Cardarellis as well. Specifically ancestry prior to my great-grandfather Cesare Cardarelli (1890-1971) from Santa Iona, Ovindoli

I've had absolutely no luck with records in Chieti (Ortona).I've tried to contact them (in Italian) but I never get a reply. I'm still looking for my great-great grandparents: Tomasso Cardarelli and Maria (Mosca)? Probably both born in the 1860s in Ortona.

Does any one know the difference between "Ortona a Mare" and "Ortona dei Marsi" or is that just an interchangeable name? All my great grandfather's records from the US say either Chieti or Ortona for his birthplace.

"Ortona a mare" is now called Ortona and belongs to the province of Chieti
"Ortona dei Marsi" belongs to the province of L'Aquila
The distance between the 2 cities is about 119km
