Reading Handwriting on Marriage Act
Reading Handwriting on Marriage Act
Hi,
I am having trouble reading the handwriting on this marriage act, the whole thing is hard to read, but for now I'm interested in the name's of the mothers.
The two people getting married are: Serafino Gaetano Maccarelli and Elisabetta Calcagni,
and the fathers are Andrea Maccarelli and Francesco Calcagni.
Any help reading the mothers names? I have my suspicions, but I can't really tell which word is their first or last name.
Thanks!

TIP: When asking for records from Italy, do NOT ask for an "estratto." ALWAYS ask for a "copia integrale." A photocopy of the original Act will contain more information

However, the given name Clelia does exist.

Clebia is actually a feminine first name of Greek origin, but it is found in places like Brazil. So I would say it is a Portuguese first name. I was just in the wrong country this morning!

I read Clelia.
No way to see Clebia
Erudita, check the "b" in Elisabetta.

Re: Reading Handwriting on Marriage Act
Clelia Cassani seems to make sense for Rome, I see other Clelia's in the records.
Does anyone disagree that the other mother's name looks like Camilla Landi?
The Landi part is hard to read, and I was thrown off by the face that one mother is cognome-nome and the other is nome-cognome

Re: Reading Handwriting on Marriage Act
Definitely Camilla Landi (deceased)
Re: Reading Handwriting on Marriage Act
Hmm, unfortunately I cannot find any record of the death of a Clelia Cassani between 1887 and 1930 in the Roman death indexes.
Luckily, I'm going to look at the marriage allegati tomorrow to double check. Just for the sake of interest I'll post what the names are tomorrow.

You might also search for Clelia Cattani - another surname found in the Province.

You were absolutely right, its Clelia Cattani (though it didn't look like it) from the Cattani's of Montefranco in Terni. Confirmed it on the allegati of her son's wedding and easily found her death in 1879.Tessa78 wrote:You might also search for Clelia Cattani - another surname found in the Province.
