Tizzano arrived 14 july 1917 via Canopic

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Tizzano arrived 14 july 1917 via Canopic

Post by dtizzano »

Hello, I am trying to get information on my grandparents, Sabatino (Sam) Tizzano and Josephine Tizzano and their 5 year old daughter who came to America from Oratino Italy and boarded the ship Canopic in Naples. They arrived in Boston on 14 July 1917 via the Canopic. Would you happen to have a ship manifest or any other information? Information from Oratino would be helpful as well.
Thanks,
Dan Tizzano

Happy to help!

I searched the marriage records for Oratino. They are online but only to 1910. It would appear that Sabatino and Giuseppa married after that date.

You can write directly to the comune of Oratino to request their marriage, and also the birth record of Maria Concetta about 1912/13.

Thank you Tessa, I was wondering if you might have records on Maria Concetta Tizzano who was born in Oratino in 1912? Also would you have any information on Sabatino and Giuseppa's marriage? You have been most helpful in the past, thank you again for all of your assistance.

As I mentioned above, the records online only go to 1910.

You will need to write to the Comune of Oratino to request those records.

As Tessa points out, the online records for Oratino end at 1910, as do the LDS films. However, I do have the birth and marriage records of your Great Grandparents in my database.

Antonio Tizzano, born 12 FEB 1828 in Oratino, son of Francesco [born 18 JAN 1807 in Oratino] and Carmina Tirabasso [born 12 FEB 1803 in Oratino], and Concetta di Bartolomeo, born 04 DEC 1846 in Santo Stefano, daughter of Angelo [born 18 JAN 1820 in Santo Stefano] and Dorodea Gammieri [born 03 DEC 1819 in Santo Stefano], were married on 15 FEB 1868 in Campobasso. Source: Campobasso (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, 1809-1910, FHL INTL Film 1733312/MATRIMONI 1868/No. 5, 15 FEB 1868. Note that Concetta di Bartolomeo was born in Santo Stefano, which was a separate comune at the time of her birth. By the time of her marriage, Santo Stefano was a frazione of Campobasso, having been absorbed by the larger comune at the time of the Italian Risorgimento.

Domenicantonio Tizzani, born 31 AUG 1874 in Oratino, son of Giuseppantonio [born 06 APR 1826 in Oratino] and Maria di Cristofaro [born 31 DEC 1842 in Oratino], and Annantonia Muccitto, born 05 SEP 1867 in Oratino, daughter of Domenicantonio [born 04 SEP 1844 in Oratino] and Sista Tizzano [born 10 FEB 1842 in Oratino] , were married on 16 APR 1893 in Oratino. I have quite a bit of information on your family tree. If you send me your email address, I'll send you some charts. My email address is armellino at yahoo dot com.
