NYC Birth records
NYC Birth records
Does anyone have some advice on locating a birth record from Queens NY in 1893?
I don't believe the NYC Archives goes back that far.
Thank you,
Drew

Re: NYC Birth records
Thanks Tessa,
I input the info but no results were found. Do you think it would be in the municipal Archives?

Re: NYC Birth records
Could be...
Did you try using only first letter of first name?
And try the sounds like and wildcard... the spelling in these records is beyond belief!!
What is the name?

Re: NYC Birth records
1881-1897 New York State birth certificates for this period can be found at the State Dept of Health in Albany. Prior to Queens being annexed by NYC in 1898, it filed certificates with the state

Re: NYC Birth records
Since Queens was not part of NYC in 1893, Antonia's name will not come up in a search of the index for the NYC municipal archives. The Queens records for births only begin in 1898. You need to contact the NYS dept of Health in Albany NY to inquire about the birth.

Re: NYC Birth records
here's the info to get the certificate from the NYS Dept of Health

3. For the period 1881 through 1897 the New York State Department of Health does have records of birth for the City of New York boroughs of Queens and Richmond.

Is this your ancestor in the 1900 census for Hempstead, Nassau County, NY? Antonia is erroneously listed as a son and not a daughter. The mother's first name is Hannah and not Anna. There is a date of birth of Jan 1896, which may or may not be correct. How did you arrive at the year of 1893 for her birth?

Hempstead was originally part of Queens. It was in the eastern part of Queens. I don't believe it was in any of the areas that T listed above. It was in a part of Queens which never became part of NYC. I honestly don't know if this info helps you or not
