Sariano, Italy?

Post by CiaoGina »

My father remembers his parents telling him that his grandmother, Maria Romano, came from Sariano Italy in the southern part of the country near Naples. I can't find a Sariano. Any guesses as to the actual town? Maybe Satriano? My great grandfather came from San Fele, Basilicata.

There are several possibilities...
The first, I'd say, is
Satriano di Lucania, province of Potenza, Basilicata
Then, in southern regions:
Satriano, province of Catanzaro, Calabria
Soriano Calabro, province of Vibo Valentia, Calabria
Saviano, province of Naples, Campania

If you have some more info, maybe we can find the town she was from. Did your ggmother go the USA? If she did, when, and where did she settle? Do you have her ship manifest, or naturalization documents?

Thank you so much. I spoke to my 83 year old father today and he does not remember writing Sariano in his autobiography even though I copy and pasted it to him and thinks that Maria Romano came from a town about 30 miles south of Rome. ??? So my search goes a bit north to find the possibility of living relatives there. Let's see.... Romanos near Rome-uh simple ;)Her parents were Giusseppe and Rosa

She married Sebastiano Lorenzo in NYC. I have their marriage license and his death cert. He was born in San Fele.

Thanks again for your input

Hi, I found this arrival:
the names sound familiar?
.............................................
Thank you,

I have seen these ship manifests on Ancestry.com and the Mormom website and Elllis Island. I have been researching like crazy trying to go further back. I feel like I hit a wall when I hear about relatives who never came to the U.S.

We believe Maria was born around 1879. They (her husband Sebastiano and kids) lived in both NYC and New Jersey.

Grazie!

Hi all,
I am now trying to obtain a birth record for Maria Romano who was born in the Molise region in Aquaviva d'Isernia. I have written to the commune twice, translating into Italian, with no response. Does anyone have suggestions for someone who may be able to do this for me. I a, happy to pay since I am trying to obtain Italian citizenship
