Castel Di Tusa
My family is from Tusa, Sicily. I was speaking with a cousin of mine who immigrated in the 40's and she said she is from Castel Di Tusa, which is a community close to Tusa. When looking in the Antenati archives, I only see Tusa. Does anyone know, are the Castel Di Tusa records included with the Tusa records?
Thank you!
Thank you!
Re: Castel Di Tusa
Castel di Tusa is a frazione (hamlet) of the Comune of Tusa.
I would expect that its civil records would be in Tusa.
Can we help you with your search?
If you provide some details (name, approx. year of birth, etc.) ww would be happy to assist you.

Re: Castel Di Tusa
I had information on my great grandparents that my sister was given when she visited Tusa. I have used this to find many records in the "Antenati" archives online. I have been rather successful and lucky to get back to my three and four times great grandparents on my maternal great grandfathers side.
I have been looking for my three time great grandmothers death record in hope of finding her parents names. Her name is Assunta Salicola born about 1805 (from her husband Pasquale Battaglia's death record and son Domenico Battaglia's marriage record). She died between 1826 and 1855. I have searched through the records and did not find her. There aren't many Salicola's in the Tusa records that I have found so far. Any thoughts?
Also, my great grandmother, Anna DiMaggio, was born in the mid 1800's but all I have is her name, wedding date and husband's information. I can't seem to find her birth record. She was married 24 Apr 1894 to Pasquale E M Battaglia, brother's name Sabatino DiMaggio. The marriage is much later than the online documents. Is there a way to access this from somewhere?
My next step I think is to start writing to Italy for records, but I have not begun this and have a lot to learn. This site is great though as I have begun taking notes. My older cousin is reaching out to a relative still in Tusa, so I will see where that takes me.
Also I see in many records it mentions a neighborhood in Tusa and I was wondering if there is an older map that may show where those neighborhoods were. I am taking a crash self taught class on reading italian.
Thank you!

Re: Castel Di Tusa
Can you provide a link to the death record of Pasquale Battaglia and the marriage of Domenico Battaglia so that I may take a look?
Was Domenico Battaglia born in Tusa (Castel di Tusa)?
I have located a birth in 1824 for a Domenico Battaglia, BUT the parents are Giuseppe Battaglia and Maria Rinaldo. I did not see any other Battaglia births from 1822-1826.

http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
and his marriage record 21 Feb 1862 http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 7.jpg.html
and Pasquale's Death record 26 Jan 1855 record #9 (26 was hard to read maybe you will see a different number)

Re: Castel Di Tusa
I got a feeling Pasquale Battaglia and Assunta Salicola were married in 1825 which is missing in the records of Tusa online

Yes, you have the date correct for Pasquale's death, 26 January 1855 (declared at 4 PM, died at noon)jbattagliasmith wrote:I have Domenico's Birth record he was born 20 May 1826

As you said, his wife Assunta Salicola was deceased.
I am not seeing a marriage for Domenico Battaglia. Will look at the link again.

Yes, I noticed that as well when I searched for their marriage. Unless they were married somewhere else. Assunta's birthplace is not mentioned, only her place of residence.
EDIT TO ADD***
On page 2 of Domenico's marriage act it gives a list of documents that were required and presented for the marriage. Included in the list was the death act of his father and his mother.
If you can find the allegati (attachments) for this marriage, you may find her death act.

Re: Castel Di Tusa
How would one find those allegati?
Re: Castel Di Tusa
I checked and am not seeing them online or in the microfilm catalog for Tusa at familysearch.org.
I also checked Ancestry.com and did not see them available there.
You may need to write to the Comune of Tusa to request the records associated with the marriage of Domenico Battaglia in 1862.

Re: Castel Di Tusa
How do I write to ask for the records? Do you have a link to a good "tutorial" or previous post on how to request documents?
