Surnames-Delmar/Beneditti. from Faleria Roma and Emilia Romagna

Post by cettorre »

I am searching for Delmar family. Parents- James Delmar, Nocentia "Innocentia" (Beneditti)Delmar. Children whose names are known are - Joseph born approx. 1901. Gertrude born approx. 1907. Two locations in Italy where family has been said are from, Faleria Rome and Emilia Romagna. I am not sure if either or both or these are correct. It is known that at least Joseph and Gertrude immigrated to Canada. By October 1926, Gertrude was married to Natile Bartollotti.
Any information relating would be appreciated. Thank you.

Birth location is Faleria, Viterbo Province
The surname appears to have been Del Moro

Here is the birth act of Geltrude Del Moro in 1907
#12
Dated 26 June 1907 at 10:30 AM at the town office in Faleria.
Before the official appeared Geremia Del Moro, 42, countryman residing in Faleria, to declare that at 1 PM on the 23rd of the month of June at the house in Via Gallinaro, from his union with a woman who is not his wife, not related and does not wish to be named, was born a female child who was presented and to whom was given the name Geltrude.
Witnesses to the recording of this act were: Francesco Agneni, 33, landowner; and Enrico Statani, 23, countryman.

Since she names her mother on her marriage act in Ontario in 1926, it is possible that the parents married after her birth.
I will search for that, and for the birth of Joseph/Giuseppe. :-)

EDIT TO ADD:

Birth act of Giuseppe (Joseph) Del Moro in Faleria in 1901
#32
Dated 17 August 1901 in Faleria
Father: Geremia Del Moro, 35, farmer residing in Faleria
Mother: a woman, not a relative, who wishes not to be named
Birth on 15th at the house on Via Belvedere #30.
Child given the name GIUSEPPE
Witnesses to the record: Angelo Santori, 40, municipal guard; and Alfonso Valeri, 34, farmer.

***
Another child (a son - Edrige) born to Geremia Del Moro and a woman who was not named.
#39
Dated 31 October 1911
Father: Geremia Del Moro, 47, countryman residing in Faleria
Mother: an unnamed woman
Birth on 28 of October at the house as Via Roma.
Child given the name EDRIGE
Witnesses: Augusto Giorgi, 50, countryman; Giuseppe La Marca, 26, guard.

Continuing with records...

Here is the death act of Innocenza Benedetti in 1925 -
It confirms that she and Geremia Del Moro were married.
(will look for the record)
Death Act
#7
Dated 25 May 1925 in Faleria
Declarants: Antonio Nori, 58, shoemaker; Pietro Dolci, 27, baker.
They appeared at the town office to declare that at 8 AM today, at the house at Via Borgo #10, died Innocenza Benedetti, age 50, housewife residing in Faleria, born in Faleria to deceased Bartolomeo [Benedetti], and deceased Geltrude Piersentili(?), both residents of Faleria in their lifetimes.
She was the spouse of Geremia Del Moro.

Tessa
Thank you so much. You have definitely found the correct family. I did not know the name was not Delmar but Del Moro, but that is probably why it was hard to find information.
Geremia Delmoro does not appear to declare Innocenzas death, is it possible he has died already? I am assuming you found no death certificate for him.
Is Geremia a translation of James? which is what we thought his name was.
The birth of sibling Edrige is news as well, is there an English translation of the name?
We had thought there was another sister named Avelia or something similar.
Also having Innocenzas parents names! wonderful!
thank you again! :D

I thank you for searching for the marriage record, that would certainly help explain why the mothers of these children are not being named, and if indeed Innocenza is their mother.

Hi Tessa!
another child (a son - Edrige) born to Geremia Del Moro and a woman who was not named.
#39
I think it was a girl "un bambino di sesso femminile" named Edvige

thank you both, that could possibly be the Avelia? that my mother in law remembers as a child, she may have gotten the name wrong or there's a bit of a translation issue.

The English for Edvige is "Hedwig". Edvige was popular in Italy at the beginning of the century, but Avelia is a totally different name, and so unusual that it is possibly a misspelling, Amelia, Velia or Avelina being the most likely possibilities.

I checked the death indices in Faleria from 1911 (birth of Edvige) until 1942 (last year available online) and did not find a death for Geremia Del Moro (or any of his children)...

Thank you Tessa for checking the death notices. I really appreciate it! Maybe the marriage record will turn up and provide some clues.
