Francesco Gruppuso Record of Baptism

Post by sacesta »

Today I found Francesco Gruppuso's Record of Baptism, my 4th great grandfather. Parents are Magistro Joseph Gruppuso and Antonia Monticciolo. Baptized on the 13th of ?? 1769. Born the previous day.

I need help deciphering the month of the event. (is that July or September?) The dates of adjacent records are more difficult to read.

I am also unable to read the name after Francesco's given name.

And it would be nice to know the names of the witnesses.

Thanks, as always.

Steve

Steve
The month is September (7bris).
I have to work on this document. There are other towns mentioned and a different parish. I need to figure out the town names first.

Ok. Thanks Erudita. I meant to ask "Is that September or November?" (I couldn't tell if the character before the bris was a 7 or a 9), but I'm exhausted and a bit brain dead. I've been looking at way too many records.

It's interesting that all of a sudden, in this generation, different parish names are appearing in the records. Up until now everyone of my ancestors along my paternal grandfather's line were baptized and married in the chiesa cattolica di San Silvestri Papa. There are several records that have been elusive in the 8th generation. Undoubtedly, some of these folks are from another parish or comune.

A più tardi,

Steve

It's September, Steve (7bris).

I have deciphered some of it. Dated Sept 13, 1769 but born yesterday (12th).
Father: (Maestro) Giuseppe Gruppuso
Mother: Antonia Monticciolo
Spouses of this town and Mother Church (Parish)
Infant: Francesco (I believe the middle name is Gaetano)
Godparents:
Godfather: Still working on his town and parish
Godmother: Grazia, wife of Giuseppe Certo, daughter of Giuseppe Corsaro and Concetta Bonnano of the town of Paterno` (that's in the province of Catania)

You're welcome, Steve. Thanks to fellow volunteer, Pippo, I can now decipher the info concerning the first godparent. His name was Don* (title) Nicola Antonio Berti. He was from Palermo. He was the son of deceased Pietro and Benvenuta Berti, who were spouses at one time in Palermo. They were from the parish of S. Nicolo` alla Kalsa, as far as we can determine. Pippo deciphered the surname, town name, and church name for this godparent. I couldn't have done this part without his generous assistance. I know you'll take the time to thank him as well.
