Mercurio from Favignana, Sicily

Post by Vonique »

Hi everyone. I am looking for information on my grandfather, Pietro Mercurio. He married my grandmother (Vincenzina Ferrante) in the 1920s and they are both from Favignana. I am specifically trying to determine how many generations back the Mercurio's are from that area. I've looked all over the internet but have never been able to find anything on my grandfather. I know he had a brother whose name was Giuseppe and another brother. His grandfather's name was Giovanni. My father's name is John and he is an only child.

Anywhere on the internet where there are specifically geneology boards for Favignana?

In the Publication of Marriage Act -
It lists Pietro's deceased wife as Girolama Mercurio, and her death in USA on 29 February 1924.

Here is a possible death certificate from Pennsylvania in 1924.
Girolama Mercurio [maiden name Ferrante] was age 22, and died on 29 February 1924, in Springfield, PA
She was the wife of Peter Mercurio.
Based on the identification of her parents on the death certificate, it appears that Pietro married her sister in 1927.

There are currently 8 listings in the Italian Phone Book (landlines) for MERCURIO in Favignana.
Perhaps you could write to one or more of these "potential" relatives to inquire of the history of your Mercurio line in Favignana?

There are few records available ONLINE for Favignana (1911-1928), but you can rent and view the microflmed civil registrations (births, deaths, marriages, etc) that are held by the LDS. You can view them at your nearest Family History Center.
Here is the link to the list of available records (1820-1910)

Oh, this is great! The most I've ever seen on him. I will follow the links and see what else I can discover. Again, thank you so much!

I'm so happy to find this site! Girolama was married to my grandfather Pietro. Three years after she died he married her sister, and they had my father, an only child. Girolama wrote my grandmother a letter telling her she was dying and that her greatest wish was for her to marry her husband. My grandmother was engaged to someone else at the time, but broke it off and married him. This is about all I know about the family, except that there were at least another 6 brothers and sisters in my grandmother's family, and my grandfather, Pietro, had 2 brothers. One was a much younger half brother. His mother died young and his father remarried.

I'm looking forward to more research. Thanks again, so much!
