He had been condemned in 1893.

Thank you. Fantastic pics! So sureal. The second pic is quite enchanting - it doesn't look anything like a prison - very diferent from the third pic which is so stark, and certainly echoes "prison" or something similar.

As always, great finds, mmogno.

I'm sure someone else will be able to make sense of what is written and translate appropriately.

(I documenti sono: ... copia di Sentenza della Corte d'Assise di Teramo in data ventidue July milleottocentonovantatre, rilasciata da quel Cancelliere, colla quale si dichiara l'interdizione di Donato di Girolamo, padre della sposa.)
Art. 32 codice penale: Interdizione legale
This is really interesting. Thank you for this. I was 99.9% sure that he was in prison, but I wasn't sure whether he had refused to give consent or whether he was prohibited from doing so. I couldn't get the wording and decipher all the script. This helps to clarify. I had a feeling this story was going to be a "web" - mmmmm - maybe time to detach myself from it - but I always love a mystery.

Thank you both! I can't wait to dig into the documents to see if i can find why he was in prison! This is great mystery and I'm having fun solving it with you guys! Ive been doing research all day. Ive found Donato Di Girolamos parents birth records I believe but still no luck on Massimilla Di Giovanni's family. Her family is the one that disowned her for marrying Donato so Ive been interested in finding out more on her family. Ill continue my search tonight and let you know what I come up with!

Its so amazing to me that as of a couple days ago we had barely any information on this side of the family and no hope of having any. I truly appreciate all the help you both have provided me with. I can't wait to share my findings with my grandpa!

Yes those are three of the four children that came to America with Anna. Just wondering when I go to family search its not pulling up the items that you guys are finding. I go to the website then click on search and then put in the names. Should I be clicking on something different to view the italian documents that you guys are finding?

I had no luck with my research last night. I did find an email on the link that @mmogno provided. I emailed them and asked where I would be able to find documents on a prison sentence. So hopefully they will get back with me. Massimillas family has been giving me trouble. I haven't been able to find any documents showing her parents names or her marriage documents. Ill continue searching today and share with you what i find.

Great, I suspected so. So basically, the first records you posted (1888 baptism record and 1909 marriage to Cetteo) are not your Anna. She is a sister to your Anna - Antonietta (aka Anna) who married Vincenzo Palma in 1901.

Did your Anna die in Hamilton, Ohio, USA in 1961? If so, I noticed that there is an entry on Ancestry which has a pic of her grave stone, which I believe says Antoniette (Anna) di Giroloma 1883 -1961. Unfortunately, I can't get a good pic of it because I don't subscribe to Ancestry. (If I'm out and about today I'll pop in to the library to see if I can view it.) Anyways, it looks like there is a tree "Sandra Villari Family Tree" on which Antonietta is included. If it is your Antonietta (aka Anna), maybe you could contact the owner of the tree for more info.

You won't find the records that I have located on Family Search by entering the names on the "search" tool. Records are only found by this method if the records have been "indexed" which means that the vital info has been extracted from the respective records. I noticed some Pianella records have been "indexed" but not all. I have found your records by manually going through the indices on Family Search, researching the names, and then locating the record from the info on the indices. I think I provided some links for you to where to search earlier.

Disappointing for you. It's possible that she wasn't born in Pianella nor married there???? Once again, if you are using the search tool on Family Search, you will only find her that way if records relevant to her have been indexed. Otherwise you have to search through the records of the respective birth and marriage towns for her records.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. The two family trees on ancestry are mine and my grandpas cousin. She has been able to share some information on our Sicilian side which are from San Filippo Superiore which I am researching the same time as I research our Pianella family. I believe the photos she has of Anna are from what I have shared. Ive been using google chrome and going through each year on ancestors italian archive site that you provided some links to. My search has been in the Pianella area but I'm going to try expanding it to the Bacucco area. I haven't been able to find that area on the website yet but Ill keep looking and see what I can come up with. I noticed in one of your translations of Anna's children birth certificates it has the street address to their home. I found a page Pianella page on Facebook that i emailed to see if they could put me on contact with someone that could tell me if the home is still there. Ive been told that the family purchased land in the area and may still own it. So hopefully we can figure out if this is the land.

Happy to help Jamie :D :D :D

Re BMDs for Bacucco:
My understanding is, that Bacucco is just a little village in the province of Venezia belonging to the town of Chioggia. The Italian vital records are broken into provinces. The province of Venezia only seem to have the earlier records on line at the antenati site. http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... i+Venezia/

There are more at family search. Bacucco isn't mentioned there but hopefully will be included with the Chioggia records????? Hopefully someone might confirm/negate. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cc=2043809

I had a very quick look there at 1883 births but couldn't see one for Antoinetta. You may have better luck.
