Maximum age of military service, World War I?

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Maximum age of military service, World War I?

Post by VotM »

I am trying to determine if a family cousin from Gioiosa Marea, Francesco Molica Nardo, might have served in the Italian army during World War I. He would have turned 40 in 1915. I would guess this makes it unlikely he was conscripted, but I am not certain; nor do I know if he could have volunteered at that age.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Men born between the years 1874 and 1900 were called up to serve in WWI in Italy. So your cousin, born 1875, would have been conscripted, even though he was age 40 in 1915. By the end of the war, the oldest was age 44 and the youngest age 18. See page 224, next to last paragraph in left column, in the link below:
