Did you manage to get any help from the Italian TV station? Ihave been searching for records of \italian POWs in the UK and have yet to obtain a list of names. My grandfather was a POW based in Lincolnshire.
Thanks
Andrea

Can you send me a photo about your grandma, please? My father had a photo of a young woman he knew when he was a POW in Staffordshire but I don't know her name. Please, write me soon!poppyandlucky wrote:Hi,i'm looking for any help with a search for anyone that you may possibly know of any Italian POW that was held in Staffordshire, England, during WW2
that may have fathered a child (a boy) born in january 1946.
Unfortunatley we have no name for this man, this making our search hard and hoping that he may have told his own family or that other POW'S knew of the situation
We do believe he knew about my Dad,my Granmother kept his I.D a secret i believe she did want to get him into trouble or to be sent away.
My Grandmother's name is ADA FARMER and she was around 17 years old when my Dad was born.
My Dad was to be adopted out but it never went through at the last minute thankfully.
I'm just hoping that someone out there in the world may knowand this man did know and it was circumstances of the war that he could do nothing,

For your further research and knowledge go to this website for possible leads. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/cata ... ID=224&j=1
There may be a file set up for POW's who are involved in a personal case whatever the reason. A sampling of 75 personal case files survive for WW11. You never know "he' may be one of those personal cases. =Peter=

Re: Italian POW's held in the uk WW2
I am still looking for any information on my father's son (my half-brother) from when my father was held prisioner of war during WWII. My father was italian and so far I have found out that he was probably held in Herfordshire camp near Well Pond Green/Standon Friars. I am still waiting for information from the Red Cross as to which Camp. Not sure if it might be Wynches Camp or not since he was italian.
I see a posting from Poppyandlucky so if you do see this, please respond. I would like to get more information.

Re: Italian POW's held in the uk WW2
My father was born in 1946 in Staffordshire England and lived in Gnosall. We believe that he is the son of an Italian POW who lived in Gnosall during WW2. The italian POW (Tony Tocci?) was sent a letter after he was court martialed back to Italy in 1945. If this information is of any relevance to anyone please get in touch.
Re: Italian POW's held in the uk WW2
my great grandfather Duilio Antonio Giangregorio was a POW in england in the 1940s and according to my grandmother he did have a girlfriend. I don't know if he had a child or not but i thought it would be worth a shot to ask on here. I can't ask him as he passed away back in july of 2013( he was 96). If anyone has info on his time in england that would be great. Also i know that the camp he worked at was at the base of a hill and near london. He was very close with the british man that was his boss ( The boss called him ''My son'') but he could only remember that his name was John.thanks

Re: Italian POW's held in the uk WW2
Hello,
There is a story that my maternal grandmother had an affair with a world war 2 Italian p.o.w. in Nottingham (England/Britain/UK), and we are not sure whether this story is true and whether my mother's real father is this Italian pow or not (there are seeming evidences both pro and contra). Unfortunately we do not have any surname or first name (though my mother once mentioned a name like Petrucchi or "Hughes"?? [but Hughes can't be right as it is English not Italian, unless the name was something like Hugo??])
All i know is place (Underwood?,) Nottingham; and time about june or july 1946 (as my mother was born 4 april 47). My grandmothers name if i am allowed to give it was Rosalba Edwards nee Poole.
I am in NZ not UK (nor Italy) so researching records/archives or asking relations (who are mostly in the uk) is not easy for me.
We can't do a genetic paternity test because the only sample we have from my mothers commonly assumed father is hair without the roots. None of my mothers siblings are willing to help as they consider it scandalous/damaging (as if all humans are not equally mixed good and bad), and even my mother has now seemingly become not so willing to help. I really hate not knowing one of my grandparents origins for certain.
If i could get a list of all the Italian pows held in Nottingham/Nottinghamshire in ww2 that might help?
All i want to find at the least is a surname for my family tree research.
I will try the radio/tv show mentioned earlier in this thread/topic, and the Italian/UK govt pow records, but thought i would post here too in case anyone knows anything or has any good ideas/advice. It is a pity if the Italian &/or his family don't/didn't know or didn't care about any relations that came from it.

Re: Italian POW's held in the uk WW2
Hello everyone! I write because I am in search of my mother's brother in England. My grandfather was Giuseppe Antenori Pow in England from 1940 to 1947 or so, in the following camps: 104 and 76 (Beela Ruver camp and Marry Thought camp) both very close to the town of Kendal. From elusive tales we know that he had a son from a relationship with a Mrs. Barbara, owner of the farm at which he worked as a clerk to the horses. Unfortunately only after the death of my grandmother and my grandfather I had the opportunity to research because we found a diary where my grandfather had written a letter to Mrs. Barbara. Unfortunately we do not have the name of this child, but know that my grandfather in the 60 or so, when he moved to Switzerland as an emigrant, he continued to have contact with the lady and her son who knew him as Uncle Giuseppe from Italy. (News learned from a relative of my grandfather with whom he sometimes confided). Plus my mother remembers seeing in secret ,when she was little, a picture of two boys on a motorcycle, that my grandfather always carried in his wallet and did not see anyone. Unfortunately, this photo has gone after my grandfather died. If someone resorted something do not hesitate to contact me! We are desperate for this brother in the hope to realize this dream of meeting him!
Re: Italian POW's held in the uk WW2
hi, the first POW camp was Beela River (POW Camp near Milnthorpe town) so no Beela Ruver....
the second POW camp was Merry Thought (POW Camp near Calthwaite town/Plumpton town) so no Marry.. sorry but the right spelling is important... because you don't know anything abt this man, half Brother of your mother, I believe that tha main help could come from UK people.. maybe you can to write also to BBC where the wartime stories published on line.. here abt Merry Thought camp and italians.. the author lived near, if you can contact maybe he remember a Barbara
