I personally think that you can ask in Tagliacozzo city hall some right certificates for to descover... you have the birthyear and this is most sufficient for all records, so you can ask the death certificate "certificato di morte" and you can descover when really he died...

Suanj,

I'm sorry I didn't understand your last post. Do you believe Nazzareno did die soon or did not die soon? Of course I have to write for information. I was just wondering what you think.

Ciao

the address is:

Hi Fred & Team Members,
A ton of great research here - WOW!

Fred,
It appears a lot of your family stayed in Westchester County, NY.
They have a terrific website and info on how to write them.
Attached is information from their site on Nazareno LUCCI's
Declarations (there are two - 1916 & 1924):

http://www.co.westchester.ny.us/wcarchives/
go to
- online resources
- resources for genealogists
- using naturalization records
- online index
- 'L'
- page 3 (in beige page header)

(sometimes the Declaration of Intention will contain information that supplements what you find on a Ship Manifest)

This Westchester County site has other Lucci's & Ciucci's listed also.

Good hunting!

The picture that suanj posted is a good likeness of a Bersagliere. They are famous in Italy as the regiment of infantrymen who sould their trumpets whilst running 'on the double', often for miles.

They traditionally have long black feathers in their hatbands, and as Suanj's picture shows, also in their battle helmets! A popular (not 'pop') song was written about them. which starts off like this...

"Quando marciano gli Bersagliere - Con le piume nel capello....."
(Can't remember any more - sorry!

Hi this is a better picture of BERSAGLIERI

Image

and the Bersaglieri song that Elba remember, the right txt perhaps is this:

Quando passano per via
Gli animosi Bersaglieri,
sento affetto e simpatia
pei gagliardi militari.
Vanno rapidi e leggeri
Quando sfilano il drappello,
Quando il vento sul cappello

Fa le piume svolazzar.

L’Italia in mezzo secolo
Copertasi di gloria,
fu adotta alla vittoria
dal prode Bersaglier.
Lo stuolo di La Marmora
Sui campi di Crimea
La foce Eridanea
Ritolse allo stranier

Splende al sol d’Italia
Del bersagliere la carabina:
dalle giogaie alla marina
è chiuso il varco all’invasor.

Dove gemono i dolori
Primo accorre il bersagliere
Che dà al misero i tesori
Di bontade e di fortezza.
Marcia a capo delle schiere
Ordinate per l’assalto,
non discende dallo spalto
finchè il fuoco cesserà.

Caduto in riva all’Adige,
Risorto a Solferino,
Pugnando a S. Martino
L’ingiuria vendicò.
L’Italia, come fulmine,
Percorse vincitore,
Spiegando il tricolore,
Univa il Tebro al Po.

I have a picture of my Grand father in his uniform with the black feathers and white leggings. When I get it scanned I'll post it.

How wonderful.. I'll print these words out and put them in a frame next to his pictures.

Thanks

Here is the translation. The original is set to music of course, but that does fit when translated. To make it fit the music would probably have lost much of the meaning of the words.

Elba

"THE BERSAGLIERE
MARCHING SONG"

When they pass on their way
those courageous Bersagliere
I feel fondness and affection
for those valiant soldiers.
They go swiftly and nimbly,
when the troop march past,
when the wind is on their helmets

It makes their feathers fly.

Italy over half a century
covered with glory
was used to the victories
of those proud Bersagliere.
The troop of The Marmora
On the fields of the Crimea
The entry into Eridanea
taken from those foreigners

The Italian sun shines
on the rifles of the Bersagliere:
From mountain ridges to the sea
the way is barred to the invader.

Where the first cries of pain
rush to the Bersagliere
that brings sadness to those darlings
of generosity and strength.
Marching at the head of the troop
with orders to attack
they never leave the bastions
until the firing has ceased.

They fell on the banks of the Adige,
Rose again at Solferino,
Fought at San Martino
All the wrongs they avenged.
Italy, like bolt of lightning,
ran all conquering,
waving the tricolour
Uniting the Tebro to the Po.
