re:online databases for avellino province
is anyone out there aware of any searcheable online databases that would cover the civil records for the comunes in the province of avellino? lds has a very small digitized collection, which unfortunately hasn't been updated in over 2 years, and doesn't include the comunes i'm researching. the http://www.antenati website has nothing for avellino.very odd considering, like sicily, which is well represented at both sites, avellino contributed so many immigrants to america. as i no longer do lds film ordering for several reasons, and no longer write to the archives in avellino directly, (did both for many years), my only other option would be some sort of digitized database. most likely theres nothing, but any help or suggestions regarding my question would be most appreciated.
Re: re:online databases for avellino province
Avellino is yet another one of those provinces for which the LDS microfilms have been digitized but the digital records have not yet been authorized for release. It may be a matter of having patience along with the hope that the rights holder will soon permit LDS to make the digital records available.

Re: re:online databases for avellino province
unfortunately,at 67,and having been researching for nearly 20 years and no longer taking out lds films, time is running out. if i were in my 20s or 30s waiting a bit longer wouldn't be so frustrating. makes no sense as witholding these 100 year old plus records is pointless. lds filmed them back in the 80s and has the films,so i see no point in the provincial authorities continually holding out on allowing these records to be digitized for online availability. its usually about money in the end. digitization is good for everyone, and witholding them helps no one. maybe by the time i'm 75 hopefully. the www.antenati@beniculturali.it site has nothing available for avellino either,so this isn't a good sign.

you can search in this website of Avellino Archive:
http://88.59.143.158/asav_web/index.fac ... 05ED.node1
free registration.. to make the account, click on "Registrati" and next times, after the registration it is enough to click on "accedi al sistema" and write in the boxes the your username and password...
the database is no to 100% but very helpful equally...
Merry Christmas,

Re: re:online databases for avellino province
thanks for the suggestion. already tried that a while back. basically its a database similiar to the lds small collection of births, marriages, and deaths transcribed from select civil records in italy and available at the lds digitized records website. didn't find much there. i'm more interested in the actual lds film versions where you can scan the original records. guess i'm stuck until lds somehow manages to get the complete avellino civil records collection available for online digitization-and this probably won't happen soon as avellino seems to be dragging its feet and holding out for whatever reason. merry christmas to you as well john

Re: re:online databases for avellino province
a very small selection has been available in the digitized collections since 2014-very small. avellino is a very small province and many of the comunes are populations of 1000 and less, unlike many other provinces that are much better represented. sicily, for example,is pretty much 100% available. i'm just researching a few comunes in the sant angelo dei lombardi area, and whats surprising is the actual comune of sant angelo dei lomardi is there, but not the few i'm looking for. very odd as theres no gain for avellino in witholding these records, and its very frustrating as avellino, like many other provinces in sicily, calabria, basilicata, apulia,as well as abruzzi(the mezzogiorno) are where the great majority of italian immigrants originated, unlike the north(above abruzzi and lazio). most of us researchers are working the south.the north is far less important to most italian genealogical researchers.
Re: re:online databases for avellino province
There are a modest number of LDS records from Sicily that are still only available in microfilm form. The great divide seems to be the end of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and the start of Italian rule -- many areas make records from approximately 1860-1910 available digitally, but 1820-1860 civil records are either only available via the Antenati web site or on microfilm. The Riveli for all of the areas of interest to me are only available on microfilm. Church record access is also uneven, with many parts of Sicily not even having their records available on microfilm -- at least not through FamilySearch.
For a brief few months this past spring the earlier periods of time for Cefalù, Gioiosa Marea and Termini Imerese were available digitally via Family History Centers. It was great while it lasted! Now I'm waiting for contract issues to be resolved, the digitization results to be approved and exclusivity periods to run their course. LDS originally said that access would be restored "soon" but I think the folks answering inquiries now realize the access issues are a bit more complicated.

Re: re:online databases for avellino province
Hi abt Avellino civil records in Archive, just I can say you that 2 years ago I had great difficulty trying to get a copy of a birth in Morra De Sanctis. The civil records in the town was destroyed, so my next step was to contact the archive. Well the very kind Archivist, said me that the first deposit of the civil records was the almost ordered and arranged, while the second deposit of civil records, (the copy from the Tribunale/Court), well the situation was dramatic, because archivist told me that the registers were all huddled together in one room, and it was impossible to find anything because they were not even put in order according to the Commune, let alone type of record. The problem- two years ago - seemed insurmountable, because the staff was very low...

It has been off for a few months. Ditto the same for Cosenza archive, that now work again, for good luck, but without the pictures. Other webpage of Portale della Storia degli Italiani of other Archives, don't work anymore....
And when I asked to Isernia archivist when the civil records would be on line on Antenati website, remembering that the Director said me on 2003 that all civil records was been microfilmed by Mormons, he said that cut funds to the culture causes problems, and no one know when the Isernia civil records would be on line on Antenati website. Some archive have volunteers who help also for the transcript of records on Antenati, but the work is so much...
I read on the Genova archive website that the staff cannot help anymore abt the search by emails, because the staff is very low.... I think that without the crisis that has hit us, Italy would have given more funds for culture and for the enjoyment of the public and for the preservation of documents...
and it is more necessary than ever to preserve the documents making the microfilms and putting them on-line, since the earthquakes that hit Italy, and many documents may be lost ...
I really admire the work done by Antenati, but if they don't have help, they could allow LDS to publish the records of civil record microfilms also coming from the state archives and not only the microfilms coming from Tribunale or Commune Archive...
We must hope that the situation will be better in the future..
Best regards,
suanj

Re: re:online databases for avellino province
this site would be very helpful if it was complete with all the comunes documented. my specific interests are in the comunes of lapio, luogosano, san mango sul calore, and taurasi, all in the santangelo dei lombardi area. is there an actual email address where i could contact the website/webmaster at with questions regarding news of further additions? i see no options for this at the website.
Re: re:online databases for avellino province
From what I've read on the web, I think the project is coordinated from the Archive of Cosenza, and that it is implemented with the civil records of other Archives participating in the project. So you can send a email here:
loredana.stano@beniculturali.it
http://poster.beniculturali.it/MW/index ... 5/contatti
asking abt Avellino civil records..
Best regards,
