Iarocci in Hamilton, Ontario

Post by Eyetie »

My Iarocci side of the family emigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, in 1913, apparently the only branch of the Iarocci family to come to Canada at the time. The other Iaroccis that they travelled with went directly to the US.
My grandfather's name was Francesco Iarocci. He married Concetta Tomasso or Tomassi. Both were from Campobasso province.
My father, born in Hamilton in 1917, did not know much about the family's history so I would appreciate any information about my heritage and my relatives.

This must be my grandfather whom I never met. Why he went to Buffalo will probably remain a family mystery-- but I thank you for this information.

There seem to be no records about my grandmother, Maria Concetta Iantomasi, except that she married my grandfather, Francesco Antonio Iarocci, on March 17 1907 in Santa Croce di Magliani. I seem to remember a family story that my grandmother was born out of wedlock so her birth was never registered.
Any information would be much appreciated.

Hello Suanj,
It's been awhile since I've visited the site. I am puzzled by the information below provided by you about my grandfather. I wonder if you have are able to find a record of him and his family arriving in Canada. We were told that the family came to Canada in 1913. Many thanks.

Eyetie-

If you don't get anywhere soon then send me a PM and let me know. I'm not Italian myself, but I've made a good contact in Hamilton, as my mother was born there. This contact person is with the Hamilton OGS, so she might be able to help you. She helped me tremendously in digging out some of my own Canadian ancestral lines, although not specifically in terms of ship travel/emigration. Many of those ancestral lines were long established in Ontario and some other lines also run to the Province of Quebec. It is there (Montreal) where some of my more distant relatives seemed to have come over from Great Britain.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,
It's been awhile since I've been here. I've just called the parish in Hamilton where my dad and his siblings were baptized, made first communion, etc. My dad and mom were married there, and I was baptized there. The parish secretary is going to get back to me with any info she can find in the parish records. I would like to take you up on your offer of getting in touch with the contact person in Hamilton. Hope I'm not too late!
