Help reading bride's father's name in 1565 marriage record

Post by VotM »

This record looks to pose some challenges! ...

Can anyone verify that the highlighted name in the marriage record below is "Ninni" (Ninni Grassu); or, alternately, read what the name should be? And if the name is "Ninni" in Latin, what is the contemporary Italian equivalent name?

If the name is Ninni, then it could be an abbreviation for a name like Antonino.

If it is Minni, I would say the name is Domenico.

In my husband's ancestral parish in Siracusa province, the priests used a lot of nicknames for first names in the records, but in the accompanying indices, they would cross reference them and you would find Cola, for Nicola, under both C and N. And you would find Masi for Tommaso under both M and T, or Nardo for Leonardo under both N and L, etc.
