Correcting Marriage Records - Louisiana

Post by A.Michelle »

Greetings, all.

I am beginning the process of dual citizenship. My great grandparents were married in 1899 in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, and on their marriage records, their names or spelled three different ways.... ON THE SAME DOCUMENT. I am attempting to get a correction, but the Clerk of Courts and every attorney I have contacted acts like I've lost my mind. Does anyone know the process or know of an attorney in Louisiana who could help?

Thanks!

I don't know if having name misspellings on the same document would actually be a problem as long as at least one of the spellings matches exactly the spelling of the name on the rest of your documents. This might be something you don't have to be concerned about.

Thank you jennebet. I hope you are right. In one spot, the marriage certificate actually says Joseph. My grandfather's name was Giuseppe. But there are at least two places on the document where the name is correct.

Joseph is a literal translation of Giuseppe. Should work well.
