Hey All - I'm new here and was wondering if you all might be able to help me figure out a name issue that has been troubling me for a few weeks now. I have been tracing my ancestry to try to obtain Italian citizenship Jure Sanguinis through my GGGF, Vincenzo Simone, who was born in Bisceglie in 1880. He married my GGGM, Pasqua di Molfetta (born 1884 in Bisceglie) in Bisceglie in 1904, right before he came to the United States.
My GGF, Domenick Simone was born in NYC in 1914, married my GGM Nicolena Carriero in 1933. My GM Pasqualina Simone was born in 1935, married my GF Frank Rinaudo in 1953. They had my mother in 1960 and then I was born in 1992.
My first question is, is my GM able to pass citizenship to my mother? My mother was born after 1948, but does my GM need to be born after then for it to be valid?
My second question is regarding a name discrepancy. MY GGGM is listed on her birth certificate as Pasqua di Molfetta, but on my GGF's death certificate, her maiden name is listed as Aquaviva. All of the documents I have found in the US have her maiden name as di Molfetta. Is there anything I can do to rectify this or prove that they are the same person?
Thank you for any suggestions and answers you may be able to provide.
Two Questions
Re: Two Questions
I can help you with question 1. Your gm canindeed pass citizenship to your mother.
I don't think the name discrepancy on the death certificate is an issue. Death certificates are the least important of the required documents, and your gggm's maiden name was likely reported by her daughter-in-law, who may not have known it.

Thank you so much, mler. It's a relief to hear that it won't be a major issue that requires additional documentation.

Re: Two Questions
So I got my GGGF's certificate of nonexistence back today, as well as his and his wife's birth and marriage certificates (I guess it was a lucky day). Unfortunately, I searched the index for his name and the birth year 1881, when he was in fact born in August of 1880. The information I found on ancestry only had an estimated year of birth based off of his age on the census data, so it appears to be off by several months. Will this be a dealbreaker at the embassy since the index search is for the year following his birth year? I'm hoping I don't have to go through the index search process all over again.
Re: Two Questions
That's a tough one. I tend to think it would pass if it's a question of months but no guarantees.

Re: Two Questions
Thank you, mler. FWIW, I will have the supporting census documents (working on tracking them down now) stating that he was still an alien when my GGF was born. I plan to go through the embassy in DC, does anyone know how strict they are with documents?
Re: Two Questions
You said that you received his "Certificate of Nonexistence". Does this mean that you only received one? You will need at least three: USCIS, NARA, and at least one local court.
Also, I didn't realize that you were looking for the death certificate of Vincenzo for dual citizenship. You may have some issues with that since some consulates don't consider Vincenzo-to-James a legitimate anglicization.
