Help Me With Transcribing and Translating my Great-Grandparents' Marriage Record?

Post by FelixAdamo »

Hello, I am trying to transcribe this and translate it! I am having trouble with the part that is written over "Ego" (it's in the middle of the document), the word that looks like "cancus" and the lines above "qum", and the meaning of "docti", if that is "docti" in the very last signature. Please help? Thank you!

Livio
The document uses the words renatum and renatam before the dates which you list as dates of birth. I think the dates are the dates of their baptisms, which may not be identical to their dates of birth.

Also, I think the word "docti" is from the word "doctus" which refers to a person who is learned, well taught, someone who is extensively read. So, possibly a "doctor," but in an educational and not a medical sense

I also saw that the word was renatum but I was not sure about its meaning. I agree that the dates are very likely to be the baptism dates.
I also agree that "doctor" has nothing to do with medicine...

Thank you so much Livio!!! Also, what of the word after "Nos". it looks like "fac". And would you say that Rosaria Daniero is "Daniero" or "Doniero"? And towards the end, is it "Di forte Carmelo Leonardo Angelo"? And the name at the very end with "docti", is that "Rosarius docti LaPaglia"? Thanks again for the help!

Since Livio is not online at the moment-

The abbreviation is Sac and not Fac, which is for Sacerdote (priest).

Carmelo Di Forte and Leonardo Angelo were witnesses. Angelo is a surname in this document. Daniero is the correct spelling of the bride's surname.

You've very welcome, Felix. I hope you saw in one of my earlier replies on this thread that the dates that Livio gave you as birthdates appear to be baptism dates. Sometimes a baptism took place on the same day as a birth, but not always.
