Hello,
The attached two documents are a 1607 riveli for Pietro Spinella. I'm interested in the underlined name. Is it Epifanio?
Thanks,
Chris
Quick question on a name
Re: Quick question on a name
It looks like it ends in -fanio, but I can't make out the beginning. It does not look like Epi- to my eyes.

Re: Quick question on a name
The bottom one looks like _hofanio and the upper looks like tofanio. Note in the upper how the t’s are very small and in the upper there are no h’s Iike in Catarina vs. Catharina below. Could be Thofanio/Tufanio? Not that I have ever encountered that given name before. Google searches show Theofanio as a known given name.

Re: Quick question on a name
Tofanio is an older version of Epifanio. They were the same name. Tufanio could be a Sicialization of Tofanio. Note the there is also Paulo and Gioseppi on the same page. The interchange of "u" and "o" (and "e" and "i") is typical in Sicily.

You're welcome. I meant "Sicilianization."
