Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
I contacted Luigi Paiano and agreed that my grandfather's citizenship was lost because his father naturalized when he was 12 years old.
New twist; my Grandmother was born here in the USA in 1908. Her Father and Mother were both born in Italy 1879 & 1885. Came to America in about 1907 and were married. As far as the family knows (I'll need to send for Natrilaztion Conformation for Non-Record). But does this put our citizationship back play through the 1948 law?

Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
Sure does.
Note though that if your grandparents were married before the 1922 Cable Act, your grandmother automatically became an Italian citizen through her husband.
Watch for this; it can be tricky. My US born grandmother obtained Italian citizenship when she married my Italian grandfather in 1916 (and lost her US citizenship). My grandfather naturalized in 1929, and she (remember she was born a US citizen) naturalized a few months after he did.
This is a quirk in the law that may affect you if your gm lost US citizenship and was forced to naturalize to reclaim it.

Fastest way to get No Record Found for naturalization?
My son is heading to The National Archives at Philadelphia to try and get a No Record Found for my Great Grand Father’s Naturalization Petition. The 1920 Census state on line 14. Naturalized or Alien and has Alien for him and GGM.
Will I need ship records?

Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
The archives does not have information on people who were NOT naturalized. You have to get that info from NARA. They have a website with instructions.
Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
In Philly they helped him search both my GGM and GGF and gave him a letter that states no record found.
Do we now need to go to DC and do it there as well?

Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
My grandfather was naturalized and I obtained his certificate from the archives in Philly. I was under the impression that the no record info has to come from DC. Maybe somebody else can weigh in on this.
Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
Hi, I have the same question no doubt everyone is posting about in this board.
My great grand father was born in Italy in 1888, Immigrated to USA in 1905, records in the US Immigration search show that he did not get naturalized a US citizen.
Grand Father and Mother born in the USA, I was born in Costa Rica, and was naturalised a New Zealander when I was 8.
Am I eligible for Italian Citizenship Dual

Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
If your mother became naturalized in New Zealand and it also affected you because you were her minor child, both your mother and yourself lost the Italian citizenship that you would have inherited from your Italian ancestor.
Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
However, if you naturalized after the 1992 citizenship law was passed, you retained your Italian citizenship.
If you did lose citizenship by naturalizing before 1992, you can easily reacquire it. The consulates have specifics posted on their sites.

Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
Reacquiring Italian citizenzenship for those who may have lost it by naturalizing before 1992 only applies to Italians who were legally RECOGNIZED Italian citizens at the time of the loss.
Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
Jennebet is correct so your only hope is if the naturalization took place after 1992.
Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
Hi, I have the same sitiation as below:
My grandmother was Italian, who born in Italy in the year of 1922 from her Italian mother and father.
She had got naturalization after married my Turkish grandfather.
She never turn back to Italy before she died in 2010 and she never required Italian citizenship when she alive.
My father born in 1952, he never applied for Italian citizenship.
What path we should fallow to get Italian citizenship

Re: Confused on eligibility Jure Sanguinis?
It depends. Did your grandmother have to naturalize in order to obtain citizenship in Turkey? If so, Italian citizenship was lost.
If she obtained Italian citizenship automatically, you and your family do qualify. However, you will have to prove that your grandmother did not naturalize; or if she did, the naturalization took place after your father’s birth.
