Trying to verify the true parents of James Elbert Pope and when they were born. Per his 1937 marriage record to Katherine Margaret Blank, James Elbert Pope was 23 years old and therefore born about 1914. His parents were James Elbert Pope and Ada (Jeanette) Moore. That agrees with the information on my family Tree. Here is the link to the marriage record:

According to this 1900 Census record for James Pope and Family, his wife, Janet Pope was age 52 in 1900 (born 1848) and he was 53 (born 1847). The children are a match to what I have on my family tree. Here is the link to that record:

Given that James Elbert Pope was born about 1914 and his mother was born about 1848, that would make the mother about age 66 when he was born. Pretty much impossible. Yet the records appear to be for the same family. Also per the 1900 census, James Elbert Pope's sister, the youngest child in the 1900 census would be 24 years older than him. Again, not very likely that a 24 year age difference between those two would be possible. Since i have a lot of ancestors for the parents in that 1900 census, and James Elbert Pope (Jr) is the link to my family, I need to determine what is real, what is not, and possibly what may be missing. Any help in resolving this logically would be appreciated.

The mother is too old to have this child
Re: The mother is too old to have this child
Perhaps the parents I listed for James Elbert Pope (married to Katherine Blank) are actually the grandparents (given that the maiden name of the mother Janet Pope isn't listed, just her married name). Can anyone find the marriage record of James Elbert Pope to Ada Jeanette Moore? That may solve the mystery. I'm not sure if that marriage occurred in the US. May have occurred in Scotland or England.

Have you considered that he may have been taken in at a young age and adopted by the family?

Not sure how I would check that. Fortunately, a person one of the older Popes married also relates to my Tree, so that I can relate to all of them now and don't have to delete any of them even after cutting off one set of Popes with the mother too old to have a child from the other sets of Popes.

Here is a link to an 1869 marriage of James Pope and Janet Sommerville in Old Monkland, Scotland.
It is attached to a tree on Ancestry that shows the three youngest of their children (Peter, Mary, Nesbit) which seems to match the Peter, Mary and Nettie you have on the 1900 US Census.
It indicates the marriage in 1869, and the arrival in NY in 1869, as well as residence and death in Pennsylvania.

Re: The mother is too old to have this child
I've seen that marriage before and their descendants. They do not tie into James Elbert Pope 1914-1990. I was trying to tie him into all the other Popes on my tree after I discovered that the parents I had for him were too old to be his parents, and therefore their ancestors did not relate to him either. I searched and found his real parents and also his grandparents James Pope and Ada Jeanette Moore - the end of that Pope family branch. Fortunately, both sets of these two unrelated Pope branches have people who relate to me.
