Brazilian looking for his great-great-grandfather

Post by marcelmangione »

Hello!
I'm looking for to find my italian great-great-grandfather.
The things I now about him is that he was married to Stefana Mangione, and they had at least one children Stefano Sciangula, that was born in Comune di Raffadali, Agrigento.
Can anyone please help me? Where can I start?
Thank you very much for your attention!

Marcel,
you are in the right place. The experts here are magicians and can help you. Meanwhile, I see that both the Mangione and Sciangula last names are still active in Raffadali. So, I am sure that you have lots of cousins there. Good Luck

All the best,
Welcome :-)

Can you provide us with approximate year of birth for Stefano?

And more importantly, can you tell us the given name of your GGGF, and his approximate year of birth?

Thank you very very much for your reply!!!

My GGGF (Salvatore Sciangula) was probably born around 1854. And was married to Stefana Mangione, born in 02/02/1859.

His son, Stefano Sciangula, was born in 24/04/1897, in Comune di Raffadali, Provincia di Agrigento. (maybe he had brothers and sisters but I dont know...)

Thank you very much again!!!

Talk Soon. All the best,

Marcel

Yes, Salvatore was the son of Francesco Sciangula, 30, an usher residing in Raffadali;
and of Carolina Moscato, his wife, 32.
Salvatore was born on 1 November 1852, at 11 AM at home.
He was baptized on the 12th.

Here is the marriage of Don Francesco Sciangula and Donna Carolina Moscato
It contains quite a bit of information regarding names of parents of the spouses and dates of birth and death :-)

#63 - dated 17 October 1846 - [Church celebration on 20 October]
Groom: Don Francesco Sciangula, age 23, born in Raffadali, ordinario [professor?], son of Nicolo' Sciangula, 46, ordinario; and of Anna Siante(?), 50
Bride: Donna Carolina Moscato, 28, born in Raffadali; daughter of Don Salvatore Moscato (deceased), and of Donna Francesca Moscato 46, residing there.
Present at the marriage were the parents of the groom and the mother of the bride to give consent. Banns were posted on 20 September.
Documents presented to the official:
1 - the birth act of the groom of 25 September 1823
2 - the birth act of the bride of 8 July 1818
3 - the act of notification in Raffadali of 20 September 1846
4 - the act of death of Salvatore Moscato father of the bride, of 9 May 1840
5 - the act of death of Giuseppe Moscato, the paternal grandfather of the bride, of 23 December 1786.
Francesco Sciangula signed the record on the last page

Here is the Publication of Marriage Banns for Salvatore and Stefana.
This would have occurred before the marriage itself, but usually within 6 months.
It is very difficult to read because of the fading of the ink...
Begins on bottom right of image -

#183 - dated 22 November 1874
Groom: Salvatore Sciangula, age 22, shoemaker residing in Raffadali; son of deceased Francesco and of Carolina Moscato residing there.
Bride: Stefana Mangione, 15, residing there, daughter of Giuseppe [Mangione] and of Liboria Zirafa, residing there.
Documents:
~ act of birth of groom - 11 November 1852
~act of death of groom's father on 1 April 186?
~act of birth of bride (date hard to read, but you have the link to her birth act)

Thank you very very very much Tessa!!!
How can I thank you? I will send you a Gift!!!
In familysearch.com I could log in and pay the subscription. But in the ancestry.com seems that they dont take cards from brazil, even if I tried by paypal... could you download the image and number of book and year and sent me on marcel@agencianossa.com.br, please?
With that I will only need now the death certificate of Salvatore to discover everything!!! <3 <3 <3
Do you work with this?
Infinite thanks!!!
