Translate birth record from Laviano

Post by jebaad »

I am hoping someone can tell a little bit about what the birth record says for Filomena Cliziano. She is born June 20th 1888 in Laviano Italy. Her mother is Maria Guiseppa Cecere thirty eight years old. No father appears listed. Is that correct? And why would she have the last name Cliziano? Anything else of interest on the document that I should know? Thanks in advance

Maria Giuseppa Cecere was not the infant's mother. She was the levatrice (midwife). The infant was born from a woman who did not consent to be named. The first and last names were assigned to the infant by the town official. I doubt that anyone else in the town had the surname Cliziano. Filomena was born on the 18th (8th line down in the record). The 20th was the date the midwife presented the infant at the town hall and declared its birth.

Thank you so much. Filomena even though she has a rough start in life move to the US in 1902. Married Alphonse Delegro in 1912 and she raised 6 children.

You're very welcome. Happy to hear that Filomena's life turned out so well, despite her unfortunate beginning.
