Seeking Assistance With Potenza Birth Record

Greetings,

We've been tracing our family history and have had much success with records in the US.

However prior to our great, great grandfather coming to the US, we can't seem to find any documentation from Italy online.

We would greatly appreciate if anyone can offer assistance to point us in the right direction where we may be able to locate additional information from Italy.

Below is some information on our great, great grandfather. I have also attached a copy of his Naturalization application if any of that information is helpful.

Name: Raffaele Langone

DOB: 1/18/1868

Birth Location: Paterno, Potenza Italy

Do you have the ship manifest? There are several towns of the name Paterno in Italy. How do you know it's in Potenza?

Potenza is listed on various documents including the attached passport. It is also listed on the death record we found, and one of his children's draft cards which is also attached (although I can't see it in the preview so not sure if it will show).

I would start looking through Marsico Nouvo records. That surname is in that town. And Paterno is in Marsico.

Thank you very much for the tip! I see on the map at italianside.com that there is a good concentration of the surname listed in that area including Potenza.

I have found 1 Raffaele Langone in 1868 in Marsico records. I can not say it is yours though. I did look for his son Vito, who they say on document was born in Italy but could not find him. I would start looking for births of children here to see if Raffaele's wife's maiden name is on any of them..That could help with a marriage record in Italy

His son Vito's marriage certificate on 6/29/1913 lists Domenica Bonsera as the mother.

Reading over the documents you have..It looks like are ancestors where neighbors. My dad grew up on Linden Blvd, Brooklyn From 1920 till he moved to NJ in 1950's. And greatgrandfather lived on Graham. And we are also from Paterno, Marsico. Small world.

Thank you so much for your kindness and help with pulling that document! The information matches what we currently have, and now we have the parents names from the previous generation to search with as well.

Very cool that our relatives lived in such close proximity to each other!

After arriving in NY in the late 1800's, several generations continued to live in the same building and general vicinity which made searching a lot easier and exact with the census data available.
