Birth Act - Luigi Colangelo
Hi guys,
Can someone please take a look at this act to verify what it says? I'm not confident that I was able to decipher it all correctly. This is the first I've heard of Nicola's wife, Isabella, and a child. I actually thought he was dead.

Thanks

Jan 9, 1877
Birth of Luigi Colangelo to Nicola Colangelo, age 30, a peasant living in Trani, and his wife Isabella Cassanelli, a spinner, living with him, in their house at #16? via S. Martino.
Sidenote: Luigi married on Aug 12, 1909 in Bisceglie an Isabella Misino, daughter of Mauro Giuseppe (Misino). Records for that year are not online.

Thanks, Erudita. Do you know why they put another date at the bottom? Is that just the date the entry was added?

Re: Birth Act - Luigi Colangelo
Given your experience reading acts like this, what do you think the chance is that the age given, 30 years old, is off buy quite a bit? Is that something that was verified while writing the acts, or just given orally and accepted?
I ask because the only Nicola I have that could be Luigi's father would have been 47 years old.

If it's not him, then I'm missing someone. I have gone through all the online acts and noted every Colangelo. I don't have another Nicola that matches this age in births or marriages, and I don't have a death for the one in the act above, and no other trace of him. I'm a bit confused.

As far as I know, the only time proof of age was actually provided was for a marriage, when the birth acts of both the groom and bride were presented as supporting documents for the marriage. Ages of parents in birth records for their children, and in death records, are often off, sometimes by a lot. I have some thoughts though concerning the 1877 birth record and have been investigating something.
First of all, the place of birth of the parents of Luigi in Trani is not given in the record, so I'm NOT assuming that his father, Nicola Colangelo or his mother Isabella Cassanelli had been born in Trani. The 1877 birth record of Luigi only states that they were living in Trani. So they may have been born, and even married, in another town.
I did a search of the name Isabella Cassanelli on the antenati website and found an Isabella Cassanelli marrying an Angelo Colangelo in 1879 in Bisceglie. Unfortunately, the marital status of Angelo and Isabella are not given in the marriage record, and there is no mention of any birth or death records presented for the marriage. Only the dates of the marriage publications are given, but I haven't tried to find those yet, to see if there is any additional info there. She was only 18 though and he was 23, so I know it's possible that she was previously married and had already had a child two years earlier, but I currently have no proof of this. Interesting though is that Angelo's father's name was Luigi, and I also found a death record for a Luigi Colangelo in Bisceglie who was the son of a Nicola Colangelo. He was age 68 at death in 1879. I've been through some of the marriage records looking for Isabella and Nicola but so far haven't found anything. There is, however, no index for the 1875 marriages in Bisceglie. Also the birth records for the years we have estimated for Nicola and this Angelo are missing from the online Bisceglie records.
Anyway, I don't know if the answers you need are in the town of Bisceglie, but that is where I'm concentrating my efforts to try to solve the mystery about Nicola Colangelo and Isabella Cassanelli.
Don't get your hopes up. Now that I've seen the marriage publication record, I'm inclined to believe the two Isabella Cassanelli were not the same woman. No death record of a former spouse was presented for the 1879 marriage to Angelo Colangelo. I'll keep looking but I may be on the wrong track. Sorry.
BTW, what info do you have about the Nicola Colangelo you had found?

Re: Birth Act - Luigi Colangelo
Try number 3
Hi Erudita,
Thanks for the research. I’m in the Alps for just over a week and have terrible, spotty internet. I just spend FOREVER answering your post with a bunch of links and the site lost it. I’m going to try again, but this time using a word document so that it doesn’t get lost. *takes a deep breath*
I don’t think this Nicola is the right Nicola, but it will take some investigation. Here is the birth act that I have for him:
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 4.jpg.html
The other thing that needs some investigating, when I have better internet, is his mother. I have a Laura and a Lucrezia Di Lotto who may be the same person.
One of the acts I have for someone else gave her date of birth as 16 April 1805.
I have a marriage to Mauro Giuseppe Colangelo in 1824:
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0
possible children:
Mauro Colangelo – If I remember correctly, I found a death act in trani, 1822, that showed he died at one day old. It seems I forgot to save the act, which I want to take another look at since this would have been before her marriage. I’ll find it when I have internet that works better than dial up.
Mauro Antonio Colangelo
Birth 1829 in Trani

Marriage to Raffaella Scoccimarro in Trani, 1853
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 5.jpg.html
THE Nicola Colangelo
Birth in Trani, 1832
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 4.jpg.html
Luigi Maria Colangelo
Birth in Trani, 1842
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0
Marriage to Angela Pesoli in 1866
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0
I assume the death acts for the three I don’t happened after 1900. I also have a crap load of grandchildren.
Take care
Julie

Just so you know, there are online records for Trani up to 1910 (from 1901) if you search the family history catalog at familysearch.org for the town of Trani. They are tribunal records for a number of towns in Bari province. I went through the death indices for Trani, but only found the death of a daughter of Luigi Colangelo and Angela Pesoli. The link to the 1907 death record is below, and Luigi was already deceased, but he didn't die in Trani from 1901 to 1907. Angela was still alive at the time.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043450
Luigi Colangelo, husband of Angela Pesoli, was deceased by 1907, as per their daughter Maria’s death record #624 (she died Aug 20, 1907) at age 32. Angela Pesoli appears to still have been alive at the time.
That's all I can do for today. Hope you're enjoying your trip.

Jan 1903 marriage publication for Maria Colangelo, daughter of Luigi C. and Angela Pesoli. Luigi was age 63 and a resident in Trani at the time.
I don't know how I missed this yesterday, but i just found Luigi's death record in Trani on April 11, 1905, at age 64, in the house at #172 via S. Agostino

In Nicola Colangelo1832 birth record to which you provided a link in your above post-the mother is Laura Di Lollo and not Di Lotto. Di Lollo is a surname found in Trani and still exists there.
Also Lucrezia's surname is DI Lollo and not Di Lotto in the 1824 record, and Mauro Giuseppe Colangelo, her spouse, was born in Bisceglie and not in Trani
Here's a link to the death record of Angela Pesole, widow of Luigi Colangelo
She died on Dec 14, 1910 in the house at #68 via Corso Vittorio. She was age 63 and the daughter of deceased Domenico Pesole and deceased Rosa Cimino.

Thanks Erudita. I'm still in the alps so I'm not going to attempt looking at records with this Internet connection.
I remembered seeing Biscigle somewhere, but then couldn't find it again, so thanks.
I just found a second cousin who lives 2 hours away from our place in the alps. I'm so excited.
Thanks so much for your help! !!!

I just looked at my records and I have Mauro Giuseppe Colangelo listed as born on 27 Jun 1800 in Bisciglie.
I confuse myself.

The info about Mauro Giuseppe's birth is correct. It appears in his marriage record.
Enjoy your trip, and your visit with your cousin, and take a break from the research. It's not going anywhere!

Unfortunately I will not meet my cousin this trip. The alps are pretty snowy right now.
I know the research can wait, but I really enjoy it.

Hi Julie
Sorry the weather conditions will prevent you from meeting your cousin. I certainly understand how much you really enjoy the research and how addictive it is. I'm sure you'll be able to do more with it when you return home and have a better internet connection. I've been really busy and haven't had much time for genealogy research.
