PS: what means Date of ..lirs 1932 Apr 14?

The bottom half of the card will list dates of filing and certificate numbers, which researchers will use if they request the full casefile from the National Archives and Records Administration.
this explanation is right...?

Hi Suanj,


The date April 14, 1932 refers to the date the soldier applied for his pension. The other number is the application number as stated above. These cards (from ancestry.com) are also available on microfilm. Sometimes the microfilm is clearer to read.

When you go to the National ARchives (Washington, DC branch) you fill out a form with this information on it and they bring you the pension file. I have found many treasures in these pension files. Marriage records, names and birth dates of children, personal affadavidts to name a few.

Hi Debbie it as can be "The date April 14, 1932 refers to the date the soldier applied for his pension"... this was the civil war, most probable the soldier was already died in this date... the civil war was from 1861 to 1865... the soldier that i think is right of my search was born in 1841 in Italy, so in the civil war was of a age abt 21 or more... in 1932 he must be of 91 old... I know for sure that he had pension before of this date for sure... I think that this is the date of digitalizing file pension... it could be? Thanks, suanj

The civil war pension cards were compiled by the USA government/military to have an easy "index" for the soldiers civil war service and a record of pension claims. Congress passed different laws after the civil war to provide pension benefits to soldiers, their wives, dependant children. The only soliders given pensions were those who fought for the Union.

The 1932 date on the card has nothing to do with when the card was digitalized. (I don't think this technology was even available until the last 20 years so so).

Some event involving the soldier was noted by that date. I didn't really think about the age of the soldier by 1932 and understand he was probably deceased. I can't guess what happened, but if you get the file. some event occured. The key may be in the column headed "State From Which Filed". The entry is P.I. or possibly P.l. I don't know what this abbreviation stands for, but it is not a state. Also, strange that he has a record of filing for a pension, but is not listed in the service records for the civil war.

I believe that I found about Leonardo Cotodio/ Corratto/Salla search that someone of seniors here remember the topic... the persistence is the success key! and as always some data provided by descendants was incorrects, so searching searching I understood that was some errors in infos... however I'm sure that i found and I need of this draft card look up and i'm sure that someone as always can help me!
and this is James(the Leonardo son) with the Vincent Pinto nephew in Liverpool, when Vincent soldier in WWI was in UK

You mentioned Liverpool - so I have had a look through the 1881 census for these names - but I can't find anything (I have all of the CDs for this census which allows for very flexible searches) The only name that I could find between this and your other post was for a Giuseppe Sala aged 39 from Milan, but he was unmarried, and a professor of music.
