Hi, the word is illegible to me, anyway. Can anyone translate it?
Thanks, Ray

Context helps a lot on old hard to read handwriting. Could you post an image with some more of the text around it? It helps to see the sentence/paragraph it's in and the type of document it is.

Re: illegible word
Hi, This is a stand alone word, It appears in a birth certificate of a father's son, and describes the father's profession. The word before it is the father's age, the word after it is 'domiciled,' neither one helped me to decipher the word in question.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: illegible word
I first read it as "fab(b)ricatore" - a maker (of) something
But looking again at the ending of the word, I believe it may be "fab(b)riciere" - a vestryman. The man was age 62.
Both of the words should have two "b" - but it is not unusual for both spellings to occur in records.

I agree with Tessa. I haven't seen fab(b)riciere listed as an occupation before, but it definitely looks more like that than fab(b)ricatore (which is a much more common occupation.)

Re: illegible word
My first interpretation was fabriciere, but since that doesn't fit the character, it didn't make sense. His brother was a lay Capuchin, so I guess this man could have been a vestryman, if they existed in his religion. Was hoping he'd be a builder.
Thanks to all.
Thanks to all.
Re: illegible word
I think this solves my question. From the DIZIONARIO DI ITALIANOHOEPLI EDITORE.IT
fabbriciere [fab-bri-ciè-re] s.m. (pl. -ri)
1 ECCL Chi sovrintende alla costruzione di una chiesa o è membro di una fabbriceria
]2 raro Costruttore
Builder fits his personality. I learn something new every day.
