Immigrant Ship Voyage Question

Post by jamesf »

Hi there,
I have received some excellent help from SuanJ. Grazie Mille!

My research continues.

Currently researching Faso (Fasso), Militello, Nasca. from Montemaggiore.

My "Step" Great Grandmother Angeline Panzarella emigrated in 1893 aboard the S.S. Umbria.
Her Manifest record states she embarked at Naples

However the Index for that manifest shows the Umbria embarking at Liverpool.

Also here on this site, where they have a great collection of immigrant ships and their records, it shows that voyage from Liverpool to New York.
http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_ship.asp?sh=umbri

How would she have gotten from Naples to Liverpool?
- Another ship and voyage?
- Does the Manifest not indicate the earlier leg?
- Am I looking at the wrong ship or reading the manifest record incorrectly?
Thank you,
James

Note: This is a another great site I found to see what our immigrant ancestors did to take these trips. What they paid and what they endured on these immigrant journeys.

Here is are the "title" pages for the ship manifest listing your ancestor.
She was sailing on the SS California from Naples (the ship departed Naples and Gibraltar)

It MAY be that someone transcribing the manifests entered incorrect information.

Here is the link to the first two pages of the ship manifest for SS California (images 628 and 629). You can follow through the images to reach your ancestor's page (image 646)
Angela Panzarella is passenger 979, and her daughter Gaetana (age 3 months) is 980

Thank you Tessa! That is right.
I am not sure what made me think she sailed on the Umbria. I must of mistaken her for another ancestor I'm researching. I truly appreciate your help!
