Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada 1800 marriage

Post by khoney »

Below is a link and partial translation. There are several additional names at the end of the document, some with the same family name. Are they shown as witnesses or did they represent the family giving consent to the marriage? Are any ages shown or place of birth?

Karen

The groom was from a different parish-it says laBaie St-Antoine

The spouses were both of the age of majority-adult age. I found the following pdf which shows what those ages should be, as I know it may have been different in different time periods and different locations-

http://www.vt-fcgs.org/PDFs/Marriage%20 ... y%20v3.pdf

The nuptial blessing was given in the presence of the individuals listed, who were relatives and friends. Francois Mori was the brother of the groom, then there was Joseph Labonte' and Pierre Labonte' (sorry can't make the acute accents properly with my keyboard), Pierre Camirand, father of the bride, Joseph Camirand, and several others, all relatives and friends who declared that they did not know how to write (so their signatures do not appear at the bottom)

Erudita,

Thank you for your help with this document. I am only now doing any real research into my French Canadian. I located a few more so, thanks to you, I can be more confident reading the documents.

Thank you also for the PDF showing the age of majority.

Gratefully,
Karen
