Looking for Lamaina

Hello all, I have just joined. I am trying to track my family using Ancestry.com and Myheritage.com. I am able to get back about 4 generations. My grandfather Xremoved was "Vito Nicola Lamaina". He was married to Donata Maria Filomena Pintozzi. Both were from Garagusso, It. They settled in Phil, PA. Anyone know a good place to look for more information?

This appears to be a child named Vito Lamaina who was born to the same couple in January 1874.
Most likely that this child died soon after, and the next son born was given the name Vito.
In this record the name of the grandfather is given. Gaudenzio Lamaina is the son of deceased Girolamo.

Thank you, well I do not have a birthdate for Vito. I have 1890 for date of death. His wide Donata was born 5/1850 and died 07/3/1914. They had 4 to 5 kids. Daughter name was Lucrezia Carmela Lamaina also born in Garagusso. Born on 7/15/1869. Vicenzo Lamaina born in Italy on 2/18/1874, A son Domenico Antonio Lamaina born in Garagusso on 6/8/1885 (he is my 3x removed grandparent). Daughter Maria Mary Lamaina also born in Italy on 07/30/1881.

Mother is Donata Pintozzi, daughter of Vincenzo.

Thank you for all the help. I have a question. I was told all my life my family was from Sicily. Is the Lamaina localized in the Garaguso area. I know people move around. But, I believe in most countries families tend to stay in one area.

I do not find the surname Lamaina in Sicily today.

Using this Surname Distribution map you can see the concentrations of the surname, only 11 towns and the most concentrated area being Basilicata Region.

AND... based on the ancestor records we have found, it is unlikely that the family was from Sicily.

It is POSSIBLE that they sailed from a port in Sicily, and so they said they were "from Sicily" when asked where they came from...

Does Italy have a censes like the US. I have come across a few Lamaina's that show DNA relation but I am having trouble finding a family line connection. Maybe a brother to one of my male ancestors.

Here is the Donada index for births 1871. He is not there. Also not in index for 1872.

Civil registrations are held at the local level. While indices exist, they are inconsistent throughout the towns.
I searched well beyond the two years I posted and did not find ANY entries of the surname Lamaina.
What is the source of your place of birth information for Vito? The Lamaina surname today is not found in the Veneto. However, the surname Galasso IS found in Province of Rovigo.
