Help with the 1662 marriage record of Giovanni Battista Nigro

Post by jrbak »

Hi,
I believe I found the marriage record of my 8th great grandfather, Nob Giovanni Battista Nigro.

He was married on the 22 Feb 1662. However, I am having difficulty with the persons following; who is D. Giovanni Battista Leona? and who is Giovanni Petri Cel?? or Pel?? I am confused if D. Giovanni Leona is his father why the name Leona and yet if this is who he married why does the father Giovanni Petri have another name Cel or Pel?? I would appreciate someone who can sort these names out for me so it makes sense to me. I appreciate it so very much.

Also what are the two words following the name Cel?? or Pell? They are also in a record on the right side of the page which I will post next who mentions my 8th great grandfather.

(12 Feb 1622)
These are the names of the witnesses at the wedding, not those of the newlyweds who are on the previous page.

Postea eis ex ritu Sanctae Matricis Ecclesiae in missae celebratione benedixi."

Dear Erudita (Erudita74) and Mmogno,
This helps and explains so much!! Thank you both! I awoke thinking, how could I have the marriage record of my 7th great grandfather in 1666 and my 8th great grandfather in 1662; I knew I had made a huge mistake so this is NOT his marriage record and this makes so much more sense- these were witnesses. Wow! When Angela (AngelaGrace56) says take it slow this is what she means exactly! I am relieved as I thought I had the wrong record for Petro Anthony but did not. Great! I am still on the right path.

Also thank you for the new Latin term, alijsq(ue) multis (= and many others) thatI just learned, Mmogno.

Have a good day.
