Found a record in the index but it's not digitized - what are my options?
Hello,
I'm looking for Angela Marra from Orti, Reggio Calabria, widow of Pietro Franco who died 14 October 1849.
I've tried:
First child was Antonino, who was born 1 January 1817. I searched the Orti marriage records from 1809-1817 and did not find a marriage record for Angela.
I did some manual searching of indexes and believe that Reggio Calabria Morti 1877, record 719, is my best next option, but photos/scans of that record don't seem to exist online -- I've looked on both familysearch.com and antenati.
I tried cross-checking the record on Archivio Storico Diocesano Reggio Calabria-Bova's online archive, but the death records for that parish (SS. Maria del Rosario) only start at 1879.
What are my options for viewing this record?
Thanks,
MC

Sorry, here you go:

Angela Marra di Santo is on the first column on the left, 20th record down.
EDIT: here is Antonino Franco's birth record as well, identifying Pietro and Angela Marra as his parents: http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 0.jpg.html

Re: Found a record in the index but it's not digitized - what are my options?
That's not Angela, but Grazia.
Marra is one of the most common names in the area north of Reggio. You cannot just pick up some Angela Marra somewhere and presume that's your Angela.
Unfortunately the parish records for Ortì Superiore before 1819 are lost. In Ortì inferiore I did not detect any Franco surname.
Antonino Franco dies in 1875 in Reggio, son of Pietro Franco and Angela Marra.
Sometimes it's just not easy.

Oh, I agree that it's not easy -- that's why I wanted to see the record, even just to confirm that I was misreading the name
It still looks like "Angela" to me, but I think we will have to agree to disagree.

Re: Found a record in the index but it's not digitized - what are my options?
You are looking at two different entries in the index.
Angela Marra (daughter of Santo) is record #719
Grazia Marra(of Pietro) is #603
Edit to add:
Here is the birth of another child of Pietro Franco and Angela Marra in 1813.
Catalina Santa Teresa. -#8
This act gives Angela's age as 28, so born about 1785.

And a son, Domenico Francesco, born in August 1810

Just a typo correction...
Daughter above is Catarina, not Catalina.

@Tessa78 -- I'm scratching my head a bit.
Here is Vincenzo Franco's (my direct ancestor's) birth record, which lists Pietro Franco and Angela Marra as parents:
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 7.jpg.html
The extract of Pietro's death record (from the processetti of the marriage of Giovanni Franco and Francesca Arillotta) shows Pietro's parents as Antonino and Anna, both deceased. Similar extracts from other marriages show parents as Antonio and Anna.
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 3.jpg.html
The marriage record you linked above for Domenico Francesco shows Pietro del fu Pietro.
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0
What are the chances that this is a poor transcription?

Re: Found a record in the index but it's not digitized - what are my options?
When I posted the BIRTH act for Domenico Francesco, I noticed the mention of Pietro's father as "deceased Pietro." I was looking for other confirmation of this.
Since you have a marriage with an EXTRACT of Pietro's death, it may well be that the father mentioned in the birth record is in error. Pietro's age (looks like the same clerk's writing) is 28 in 1810, 36 in 1813, and 40 in 1825. Unfortunately, none of the other births I found mention Pietro's father
EDIT TO ADD:
Here is the original death act for Pietro Franco in 1849.
It is interesting to note that there are NO PARENTS MENTIONED on the death act, only that they are deceased.

Tessa,
Yes, of course, birth act. I was searching through marriage processetti at the time and typed the wrong thing.
I find often that the listed age for people is.... somewhat variable and I don't really use it except as a barometer to determine where I should start looking for their birth records. Maybe this is the case here.

Thanks
Back to my original question - is there any way to see an index if it's not digitized online? I understand that the parish in Orti Superiori lost its records before a certain date, but there's got to be a master archive of the Stato Civile, right?
