Foundling reclaimed or given up?

Post by elenamb10 »

I have found what appears to be a birth certificate of 2 sisters that were given up by their mom, Annina Orsini. Overall, i can't figure out if this document is saying that Annina is reclaiming the 2 girls or is giving them up. I would appreciate any help! I have translated essentially the entire birth certificate but there are a few parts really tripping me up.

1. The job title for Annina Orsini on line 3. I swear it says "Temtrice" but I can't find a translation for that word anywhere online. Did the writer mean to say something different? is a "Temtrice" really a temptress in english?

2. At the end of line 8, I think it says "una portante" which translate to a support. in the context of this birth certificate, what does that mean? was she a friend? a support person? or something completely different?

3. MOST IMPORTANTLY, is this document saying that Annina Orsini reclaimed her children or was giving them away?

i appreciate everyone's help!

My rough interpretation of the document, separated by line according to the original document, is as follows (FYI, lines 1 and 2 are not pictured in the attachment but are translated below):

In the year of our lord 1893, 9 October
10:30 in the morning in the Municipal hall
Before me, Camillo Bottani, Mayor and official
Commune of Sanvalentine, appeared Annina Orsini, parents unknown
temtrice and housewife living in Sanvalentino and
she has presented to me copy of the act of recognition received the 15th
January 1890 from the notary Domenico Venturo of Tucco Casauria, issued by the same notary on the day 12 July
1893, with which the aforesaid Annina Orsini reco-
gnizes for her children 2 female children, a support (portante?)
named Carmela Ventura, annotated at number 7 on the register of foundling
and entered in the birth register at number 8, in the day 13 November
1877; and another for name Giulia Monti reported
to the number 17 of the civil register of Sanvalentino,
like the other, in the 29 May 1882, and entered
in the register generale (?) of foundling at number 40, in the same of 29
May 1882. So the same Annina Orsini
has declared to hold the same name as the aforesaid children
but with the surname of declarer Orsini.
Having the request of Annina Orsini, who has interviewed the
transcript, i have attached my stamp and inserted the above copy into the volume
of the annexes to this register.
I shall include this copy (??unknown words??) with these minutes, drawn up in
the presence of witnesses Signori Pace Filinto of Nicolarine (dead) and Gigante
Valentino of Beniamino (Dead), property owner living and (uivente??) in Sanvalentino,
This report was read and approved, the signiture of all the participants
who signed it, minus Orsini who declared she illiterate.

Commune of Sanvalentine, appeared Annina Orsini, parents unknown
"tessitrice"= weaver and housewife living in Sanvalentino and
she has presented to me copy of the act of recognition issued the 15th
January 1890 from the notary Domenico Venturo of Tucco Casauria, given by the same notary on the day 12 July
1893, with which the aforesaid Annina Orsini reco-

1877; and another named Giulia Monti reported
to the number 17 of the civil register of Sanvalentino,

"Io, aderendo alla richiesta" of Annina Orsini, who has "interesse alla trascrizione", have attached my stamp and inserted the above copy into the volume
of the annexes to this register.
"Di questa inserzione faccio constare" with these minutes, drawn up in
the presence of witnesses Signori Pace Filinto of Nicolavincenzo (dead) and Gigante
Valentino of Beniamino (Dead), property owner living and "residenti" in Sanvalentino,
This report was read and approved, the signiture of all the participants
who signed it, minus Orsini who declared she illiterate.
The document says only that Annina Orsini recognizes Carmela Ventura and Giulia Monti as her daughters and therefore asks that their surname be changed to Orsini.

@mmogno-didn't realize I had replied to a duplicate post early yesterday morning. Glad you're well, G.
