occupation: accenditore

hi everyone, just indexing for one of the FS projects, I came across a guy whose profession was "accenditore" (literally "lighter"...?), which happens to be his dad's occupation too.... but I have never heard of this before, and wonder what it may actually mean

Hi Ottolino, I wonder if it refers to those turning on the street lamps, though more correctly they were called "lampionai"...

I think he was a gas lamppost lighter-turned on street lights every night before the sun went down. Never heard of this occupation, however, with respect to Italy. Possibly also had to do with explosives. Seems that there were different types of accenditori.
