As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.
hi everyone, just indexing for one of the FS projects, I came across a guy whose profession was "accenditore" (literally "lighter"...?), which happens to be his dad's occupation too.... but I have never heard of this before, and wonder what it may actually mean
I think he was a gas lamppost lighter-turned on street lights every night before the sun went down. Never heard of this occupation, however, with respect to Italy. Possibly also had to do with explosives. Seems that there were different types of accenditori.
One of the most fun things that I discovered in my research was finding my look alike ancestor, Prince Marino Caracciolo II.
