Viola Surname in Colle Sannita

Post by Viola »

Hello,

I am trying to find any information about the Viola family from Colle Sannita. The only records my family has on my grandfather, Giuseppe Viola, is that he was born in Colle Sannita on January 24, 1887 and emigrated to the US in 1906. We have now idea of siblings or relatives or even how he came to the US (he died in 1965 before I was born).

Thanks for any help.

Thanks Suanj and VJ.....It looks like it may be some of the info I'm looking for.

Although he had 7 children with my grandmother (including my father), not one of them know any real history of the man, only rumors. Supposedly he was in Canada for a while before 1927 and might have two brothers, but that's all I know. On his Alien Registration it says he walked across the border at Niagra Falls, NY to permenantly settle here.

My next step would be to back track he and his family in Colle Sannita and then try to figure out why he was in Canada on and off for 20 years after his arrival in the US before settling in Dunmore, Pa. (Scranton area) to marry my grandmother...

Any other suggestions would be welcome!

Guys,

Nice job again!

Are there similar records for Canada? Where can I find them? Hopefully if those records exist I can find out who/where he was going when he headed there originally!

Thank you!

Thank You Wldspirit.....It's pretty interesting stuff. Who knows, maybe after coming to the US he left to go back to Italy and then went to Canada......The interesting part in the manifest you gave is that he is married at the time (if this is indeed my grandfather). My grandmother was 18 when they married and he was 20 years older so perhaps he was married twice!

My great grandfather was named Salvatore Viola. As far as I know, he had two sisters named Concetta and Costanza. We recently found a letter dated 1952 sent from Costanza Viola (from Colle Sannita, IT) to Salvatore Viola (in Saginaw, MI USA) and we're wondering if any of the family are still there.
