I'm having some trouble making out the surname of the mother of the bride, Marianna. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Re: Surname of mother of bride
Just chiming in here. While the record clearly does read "Marantucci", I think the clerk may have made an error, and that the correct name might be "Martucci" which appears in the the town. I don't see any evidence of the surname "Marantucci" The clerk may have got muddled with the given name?

Re: Surname of mother of bride
Echoing what Angela said, sometimes a surname will die out in a particular town, but I don't see Marantucci appear as a surname anywhere in Italy.
Researching Gibellina, Sicily surnames Bivona, Bonafede, Zummo, Ponzio, Bevinetto, Beninati, Fontana, Cipolla, Bruno, Manfrè, Lanfranca, and Navarra

Thought I'd revive this thread breifly:
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0
Death record for Marianna Maranducci, left #178
I've also found 3 death records for her children that all list her surname as Maranducci. Possibly a surname that died out like bbivona pointed out?

So the plot thickens! Have you tried looking through indices of earlier records to see whether the surnames Mariantucci/Marianducci are listed?

The surname Maranducci did exist as early as 1576. There is a reference in the link below to a Nicolangelo Maranducci who was a notary (Archivio storico per le province napoletane, Vol 5, p. 718).
