He appears on the report as of three different dates. All are here. I'm pretty sure they meant Matera instead of Madera.NickAndreola wrote: 29 Aug 2021, 17:06 No, not my ancestor....I belong to another genealogy website and try to help others there with all the things that you and all the other wonderful people here have taught me (which I'll be forever grateful for!).....If It is beyond my abilities, I either send them here or post the question for them so they can get the REAL experts on the job.![]()

Hi,
abt Matera births the Pietro Cancellieri that we are searching for is not in Matera births..... well, Pietro sailed by Genova port no by Naples port... the surnames of other travellers are all of north Italy... so I assume that to sail in genova port was more helpful than sail in Naples port... right..
in south Italy are Cancelliere and Cancilleri as a well Cancillieri, seeming equals to Cancellieri and instead are not equals just similars... on the picture the birth town is wrote by another handwriting and the initial letter is unreadable, like made by a illitterate, uncertain in the writing...

But, it are some database abt naturalizations in Australia? Pietro went on 1926 and I believe never deported or imprisoned.. Maybe he naturalized after WWII, but no many Australian databases free on line... I know that in Australia wads a Cancellier ( without the final i) and he was born in Faedis, Udine, IT.. A Cancellieri ( but in Italy was Cancillieri) was born in Agira, Enna, IT...

Re: Ideas on the location?
I am no help here. When Nick posted that a document listed a birth town of "Modono" or maybe Modena" I just did a search for the name in locations that sound like Modena, and came up with that one in Madera. Sometimes handwriting for a and o can be confused, as can the letters r and n, so I thought there might be a chance that it was a poorly written Madera/Matera. If the rest is not a match, then so be it. It sounds like this is not him.suanj wrote: 29 Aug 2021, 17:39 Bu are some database abt naturalizations in Australia? Re: Ideas on the location?
Oh yes--- I found a genealogic tree on ancestry.com abt a Pietro Cancellier son of Giuseppe and Maria Zanin, born on 26 jun 1904... II believe Meduna di livenza, and the father was born in Meduna di Livenza, in effects, and deceased in Pavia and Maria Zanin born in Motta di Livenza and deceased in Pavia.. This Pietro Cancellier died on 20 MAR 1945 • Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia #5030.. I assume that this Pietro Cancellier is the Pietro Cancellier on the ship's manifest...
