Re: groom's name
Donna, I'm wondering whether the groom's surname might be Gargano. What was the bride's name?

Re: groom's name
You could search through surnames in that town at that time to see if anything rings a bell.
Re: groom's name
thanks....it could be gargano but that is not historically a common name in ariano. however, campagna is. it is also the first name that REALLY throws me....and online marriage records end 1940.

I'm thrown by the first name too. (I've looked at it off and on.)
For the surname I'm still reading Gargano, and I realise that it is not a name that appears in those early vital records for the town. There's always the possibility that he wasn't a local though.
The other name, which does appear from the town, that I had also considered was Canzano. What you could do, very quickly, if you haven't already done so, is run a search through your wonderful PDF's, for the name Canzano and see what male names come up.

Re: groom's name
Could the first letter be A, similar to the A in Ariano? Or maybe an O?

Could be. I have tried those. I was thinking Oscar because I've seen the name Oscar Gargano but I don't know the Italian version of Oscar. I was wondering whether it was a lazy "P". I've tried so many combos. One day the penny will drop!!!
