Prison Records

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is somewhere to find prison records online. My great 2x grandfather was Giuseppe Petrella born between 1895-1905 (I believe). My family told me he was born in Jelsi, Campobasso, though he moved to Gildone, Campobasso when he got married and had children. I have not been able to find his birth record (I have checked both for Gildone and Jelsi), though I have been told that he was in prison for some time. I was hoping a record from a prison (most likely in Campobasso) would give me some information.

Can you provide the name of his wife? any of his children?

Did he immigrate? To where? When?

The birth records for Ielsi go to 1903. I checked the indices for 1895 through 1903 and did not find him.

Might he have been born on May 24, 1900 in Ripabottoni?

His wife was Maria Cristina Cerio, born in Ferrazzano in 1905. Her birth record is not online but this I know from my family. They had five children all born in Gildone: Giovanna, Antonio, Michele, Nicola, and Maria. I questioned how come both Giuseppe and Maria Cristina had moved to Gildone when neither one was born there, my grandmother told me that Giuseppe's mother was from Gildone.
I do not believe he immigrated anywhere, I have only been told of him living in Italy.

As for Giuseppe being born in Ripabottoni, I checked the record and that could possibly be his birth record. I am going to try to find the marriage record of the parents from this record.

This is the marriage of the parents for Giuseppe born on May 24,1900 in Ripabottoni... I don't believe this is the right Giuseppe

If he was in prison you may be able to find the court case but I have never been successful in locating prison records. Check the State Archives for trials etc.
