searching for Vincenzo Pangaro
Good evening! I am hoping for help searching for the birth record of Vincenzo Pangaro. He was born in 1876 in Chiarmonte, Potenza. I don't see the year 1876 on antenati. If anyone is able to find it on familysearch, I would be very grateful!

Re: searching for Vincenzo Pangaro
Well you all bet me. I'm always the snail. Anyways I'd already typed the following up so will post it here.
Are you sure he was born in 1876? Who were his parents?
Here is a link to the 1876 birth indices in Chiaromonte – I don’t see a Vincenzo Pangaro. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=776525
I checked indices of 1873, 1874, 1877, 1878, 1879 but no Vincenzo Pangaro. There were no 1875 birth records so he may have been born that year.
Edit to Add: What I would suggest you do, is write to the State Archives in Potenza and ask if he is on the Class 1875 Draft List. That's what I had to do for my grandfather because his birth year records were missing. They were able to confirm his date of birth and of course I already knew who his parents were so everything matched.

Re: searching for Vincenzo Pangaro
Thank you everyone. All of his immigration/naturalization/USA documents list 1876 as his birth. I don't know who his parents were- I was searching for his birth record to try to find out their names. I know he was married to Caterina Battista sometime around 1897 as their first child was born in 1898. I have not been able to find their marriage record either, which would probably clarify his birth year. Did anyone come across their marriage record?

Re: searching for Vincenzo Pangaro
Thank you!
For the marriage of Vincenzo's parents... I can make out that Pasquale Leonardo Pangaro was the son of the late Vincenzo and Maria Antonia Amendolara and was 26 . Maddalena Maria was also 26 and a foundling. Both were from Chiaromonte and farmers.
Does it say the age of Maria Antonia /anything else Im missing?
Also, if he was 26 at the time of the marriage, he should have been born in 1876

Does it say the age of Maria Antonia /anything else Im missing?-her age is not given in the record. You have all the important info from the record.
Also, if he was 26 at the time of the marriage, he should have been born in 1876ages in marriage and death records are not always accurate. I think he was born in 1875, but that year of birth records is missing. Also they had a child named Giuseppe on Feb 15, 1878. in the house on via Pisacane, a street which still exists in the town. Maddalena Maria age 23 in this record and Pasquale age 25. So you even see from this later record how inaccurate ages in these records are.

Re: searching for Vincenzo Pangaro
Just wanted to point out something. While I know that "Maria" is a surname in the town I am understanding from reading the records here which quote "Maddalena Maria" that the invented surname the official gave to the foundling was Maddalena not Maria. Maria is the Christian name of the mother not the surname. So mother's name is Maria Maddalena.

You asked about Maria Antonia's age. Here's her marriage, at age 18, in 1847 to Vincenzo Pangaro

p.41 of 74 Solemn Promise (left column) dated July 29, 1847. Marriage in the Parish of San Giovanni on Aug 2nd (right column).
Vincenzo was age 26, a day laborer, and the son of Leonardo Pangaro and Maria di Marco.
Maria Antonia was age 18 and the daughter of deceased Domenico Amendolara and Maria Breglia.

Re: searching for Vincenzo Pangaro
Unfortunately Maria Antonia's father, Domenico, died a few months after her birth:
Death Record No 72: Domenico Amendolaro
Chiaromonte: 19 October 1828
Domenico Amendolaro, died on 18 October 1828 in his own home. He was born in Chiaromonte, 43 yo, a day labourer, living in Chiaromonte, the son of the deceased Francesco Amendolaro, also a day labourer, who had lived in Chiaramonte, and of the deceased Teresa D’Ursi, who had also lived in Chiaromonte, with her husband.

Edit to Add: A copy of this same record was included in the allegati/processetti for the 1847 marriage of Maria Antonia and Leonardo. It is interesting though that it is doesn't mention his wife's name (Maria Beglia) although I have seen this before in Potenza province? Anyways, it would be good to find other records to confirm that this is the correct Death Record and that his mother's name was Teresa D'Ursi. We know from Maria Antonia's birth record that Domenico's father was Francesco so that is correct.
