Help with Birth Certificates

Hi there,

Two of my family members were born in Fanna, Italy, and I’m going through the process of requesting official documents from the local commune.

Please find attached the birth certificates for both people.

Could you please help me with the following questions?

1. Local commune – I understand Fanna belongs to the Province of Pordenone or possibly Udine? Could you please confirm which commune I would contact to request birth and marriage certificates?

2. Translation – I’ve done my best to translate and read the writing! Here are the names and birthdates I have translated. Is the below translation correct?

• Luigi Girolami born on 10/6/1889 (top left-hand corner of jpg)
• Caterina Toffolo born on 19/4/1985 (bottom left-hand corner of jpg)
• The birth certificates are “linked” by names, dates and marriage number, however to me the writing reads as Caterina on Luigi’s birth certificate and Catterina on her birth certificate. Any thoughts?

3. Marriage stamp – I’m a bit confused by the marriage stamp that appears on both birth certificates. Both birth certificates have the unique marriage number of 21, the name of the spouse, marriage date of 3/5/20 and a stamp date of 28/8/1934. It seems unusual to have on a birth certificate. Do you know why this stamp was applied and what the marriage number represents?

The spelling of Cat(t)erina is inconsequential.

An annotation of marriage on a birth act is common. The "stamp" dated 1934 is the date upon which the annotation was entered onto the birth act.

As you say, the date of the marriage is 3 May 1920, record #21. It is likely that someone requested a copy of the marriage or births in 1934, and so the annotation was made.

Luigi was born on 9th and presented on the 10th (the date at the top of the record.)
Catterina was born on 18th and presented on the 19th.
