Giovanni Battista Torella born 6 Nov 1882

Post by RobPurser »

Hello.
I am trying to find out more about my great grandfather Giovanni Torella. Since the 1921 England Census has been published I now know he was born in the Province of Caserta.
I know he migrated to England around 1900 (although I cannot find any documentary evidence of that) and I have information about him living in England up to his death in 1969 but know nothing about him prior to that.
His father's name was Pasquale and he was deceased when Giovani married his Swedish wife (Maria Carolina Kraft) in England in 1918. Pasquale's "rank or profession" was described as Independent Means.
Giovanni (known as John after he moved to England) was a hairdresser.
He has been a brick wall in my family tree for many years now but hope someone may be able to help.
Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob,
Do you know his approximate date of birth?
Did he migrate alone or with his family?

Hi Farassino.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Giovanni was born on 6 November 1882. I don't know if he came to England on his own or with his family but my guess (and I have nothing to base my guess on) is that he came alone when he was about 18 years old although the 1900 migration date is just what I have previously been told by my Aunty but she wasn't sure.

Thanks.

Giovanni was born on 6 November 1882.

Thanks and sorry.
I’ve just noticed that you already stated the birth date in the title of your request.

Anyway, here are the birth records for the year 1882 in the province of Caserta.
There’s quite a bit to scroll through.

Hi Farassino.

Thank you so much for that. I will have a look through the records. I wasn’t aware they were accessible.

I’ll let you know how I get on!

Thanks again.

Hi Farassino.

I have now gone through the records and unfortunately I can't find Giovanni. I have either missed seeing him or he is one of the record sets where they have not published the images. The date of birth I am sure is correct because it is backed up by other sources.

Thanks again for taking the time to look for me.

It's back to the drawing board I'm afraid for me and the brick wall is still there. :(

Best wishes,

Rob
